i usually leave my comp on, but my shit locked up today and when i rebooted when sice usually loads i got the message that my version (4.05) was no longer a valid version, more specifically it said my winice.exe was no longer valid. even worse i couldnt get past that in reboot. im f0rkin confuzed, i tried everything i could possibly think of. but no luck it just gave me the message and said to visit numegas site. i finally gave up and reformatted really pissed me off, but i was wondering if anyone else had the problem. but i really cant understand how it happend. im stumped. l8rz

I don't know what your problem consist of; but did you know?

* That you could have pressed SHIFT-F5 to bypass the auoexec.bat, config.sys at StartUp?

* That you could have used a Boot disc to access your computer?

Reformatting a computer because of a line in your autoexec.bat really wasn't the way to go ;P

I didn't want to p*ss you off... In other words I meant:

SoftIce is not standard into Windows! It has to load somewhere, and that can be disabled upon startup! (remember? there's a way..etc)

I had such funny progs too before, and I know.. If something wants to block my boot process I need to check following files:

* Autoexec.bat
* Config.sys
* System.ini -> under [boot]
* Win.ini -> under [Windows] (especially load instructions)

and disable any uncommon stuff....

Did you try renaming winice.exe under DOS? That gives you usually another (more specific) error message at next boot...

I excuse myself again.. if I hurt your feelings, personally I think you were too fast using format! I can't use format... I have to find a way in case my machine is stuck! Too much data would be lost! And... I always found a way!
