I just wanted to place a comment here, in case other ppl run into the same problem.
WinXP automatically downloads and installs 'fixes'.
The last one was called Windows hotfix (SP1) Q810893
when it installed itself the computer started having problems loading Sice, because windows placed internal int 3 instructions in the NTskol module.
Disabling Sice allows windows to boot, and uninstalling the hotfix fixes the problem. I am unsure if this incompatibility is an oddity of my system, or if it is more pervasive among WinXP and Sice users
