Hi I am very new to all this and wish to install softICE
but have no Ideai how to do it or want i need.
I have downloaded it but don't know how to Install it.
I downloaded it with Gozilla, which give me 4 zip files which i unzipped. There is now 1 file in each folder which i can not open, and i have no setup.EXE files.The files i have opened are devotion, file_id, firesite, MFD, ULS, all in notepad but the file which i can not open is mfdsi45.r01 which must have the setup.EXE file in it, this is the same in all 4 folders.

maybe you need SoftICE?

and no, i'm not telling you where to download it, find it yourself. }>

Running the provided "Setup.exe" normally does quite a good job of installing the program for you

you don't make it clear, have you got softice and need help installing/setting up or are you asking where you can find it?. If you are asking where you can find it, I'm afraid I can't tell you because I don't know. If its help setting up then can you be more specific about the problem.

Well you're about halfway there Extracting the 4 .zip files is certainly the first step.
These 4 .zips should be

1)mfdsi45a.zip
2)mgfdi45b.zip
3)mgfdi45c.zip
4)mgfdi45d.zip

Looking inside you're newly unzipped folders you should now see some files with extensions like .rar, .r00, .r01, ect. You mention the mfdsi45.r01, but there should be more; 4 to be exact and they should be numbered sequentially.

1) mfdsi45.rar
2) mfdsi45.r00
3) mfdsi45.r01
4) mfdsi45.r02

These files, known as rar files, are actually compressed archives like .zip files but different in the sense that all of the small files (volumes) are extracted into one large file using an unpacker like WinRar. You will wish to begin the extraction process with the .rar file (I shouldn't have to mention this but for the sake of thouroughness make sure all of the rar files are in the same directory). Once begun, it will then continue sequentially unpacking each volume in the rar archive until you reach the last volume (in this case .r02). Upon complete extraction you should have the SI405w9x.exe file. This is your setup file for the SICE installation and you can follow the instructions from there.

Might I also add that it would be a very good idea for you to download some tuts on SICE's configuration as you'll need to modify both your config.sys and autoexec.bat files (and possibly tweak your winice.dat). There are a number of tuts that explain these things in detail and you should begin your search right here with the local +fravia search engine followed by a visit to +Sandman's SoftICE Resource Center.
