Just wondering, has the subject of a faq forum been up? I know the "read the faq" part is rather viewable, but seems to me it would be easier to update a faq running, by just moving relevant threads to a faq forum. Noted it, coz of some of the q's in the newbie forum: could be kinda easy to kick em over to a faq forum, and it might be easier for people to figure out.
Flame on, partyppl.

Actually we've been kicking around the idea of collecting instructive threads for placement in another Forum, sort of an instructional place and directing people with repeative questions there. Really mostly what you are suggesting, but more an attempt to complie good lessons, rather than simply collecting threads in one place.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I was thinking about. You've got my thumbs up on that one. Is it gonna happen, or is the idea in the bin?

It's going to happen. Someone or several someones simply have to find the time to make the compilations of the "good" stuff. One of the thoughts I had was a compilation of the "Teachings on Asprotect" which would attempt to pull together a collection of the discoveries regarding this protector over time. It would show the evolution of the protection and the schemes used to defeat attempts to discover its secrets. This could be brought forward to the latest discoveries and then those who are new to unpacking and/or this protector would/could be referred to the collection and, only after they have studied what has come before, should they be offered specific help on a particular problem.
The general idea of this approach would be "teaching" how to discover and then to deal with what they find in the code, rather than being provided canned solutions for some specific version of the protector. In this manner the "student" will be encouraged to actually learn how to do it themselves and helped when they actually try and come up against specific problems they don't understand. As the protection evolves, the newer discoveries could be added to the "Teachings" and not have to be set out again and again.
