Is MultiEx the best program for extracting/importing for large data files?

say you want to extract a song, but it is packed in a huge .dat file

From known game formats, yes, that would be my guess (I would also guess that XeNTaX is a member of or affiliated with at least one game cracking group ). Keep an eye on the two spin-off projects Mexcom and OpenMex though (from the same guy), they might be taking over in the future.

You can also use their published multiex.dll file to implement MultiEx's functionality in your own programs.

Writing your own extraction script isn't that hard, it varies depending on the game though.

Extracting images, and media is usually pretty straightforward. The problem comes when you try to understand small extracted data files. Normally they are just a garbled collection of ASCII characters parsed to a file. How are you supposed to make sense of files like this?
