You don't.

Since this would in most cases be prevented by design, you would have to hack the server in question, or at least exploit some web server vulnerability or similar to view the source of cgi and other web scripts.

And Mr. Blue, we can do quite well without replies like that...

Sorry, I meant no offence. This was the short version of what you've said above. And then, this is not a place where we discuss this kind of stuff...

Howdy,

I agree with Mr. Blue for the most part. I dont feel comfortable having
that question asked here without some further explanation. Plus it should be in off topic <where it magically re-appears

Are we trying to exploit some CGI script ?
Is this purpose a part of a challenge that will not harm anyone ?

Do tell us

I believe this is the classic grey area between cracking and hacking.

Either kataklismic wants to leech porno images for free (hey Kat, there are soooo many other ways to do it than to simply hack passwords/cgi. Go to www.searchlores.org to se how to do the same)

OR

He is really trying to exploit vurnebility in one of the newfangled web servers, in which case, you have to let us know what exactly are you planning to do and how much progress you have done so far.

One-liner questions are good in Arnold Schwarzenegger movies. They are not, on a RCE board.

Speaking of one-liners: "Go ahead, make my day."

I agree we should not encourage people on this Board to discuss breaking into other people's servers, although I conceed it is a definite "grey area" to distinguish between hacking someone's code and there server, but it somehow "feels" different.

Actually, it's not all that difficult to hack ones server to get to the vital areas. Although IMHO I view this board more on the programming side of things, this discussion should really be elsewhere. There are tools out there for this, and if your handy, you can make them yourself. Extensive knowledge is required of networking and systems architechure, something you cannot just learn quickly. Of course IT managers set up there systems differently, so fingerprinting is a must and be prepared to spend alot of time, uh learning.

I see +Spla/\ has coined a new nickname for our Musician Friend. I hope it is "self gratifying." You would have to have read the other thread, where this name first appeared to get the "reference."
