Hello everyone. I recently read a tut by Predator on inline patching an Asprotected app (Awave Studio v7.0). Unfortunately the link to download the file didn't work. I found a copy of Awave 7.0 elsewhere but found the tut didn't work with this version.

I am in process of learning to unpack programs and went ahead and with much work unpacked and cracked the app. However I am unsure what packer it was packed with. In other Asprotected targets I have looked at there is an .aspr section in PE header. This on has a section labled .Y38d5x

Anyone seen this befor and can tell me which packer this was. Are there other things I can check to tell which packer?

thanks

Try using GETTYPE http://www.egroups.com/list/gettyp

Or UNPACK20

www.unpackinggods.de.vu www.unpacking.org
ug2000.tsx.org

And try to indentify the type of packer that way.

Goto www.exetools.com and look for a
proggy called Language2000. This one can detect most used packers (not Vbox).

If i can recall correctly, asprotect lets you change the name of the section that it stores the code in. Either they used a different packer or they just decided to change the name.
