does anyone know if there is a tool to manually reduce the power(i mean GHz) of a notebook with mobile processor? this question came to my mind when working with softice on my notebook. (if the notebook is connected to AC the processor runs with full 2.2GHz if it is on battery its just ~1Ghz) my problem with sice is that the temperature of the cpu raises very fast when i'm in softice and the notebook is connected to AC. this forces me to manually turn on the fans on full speed to keep my cpu from being toasted which is pretty annoying(noise). i discovered that when the notebook is on battery and only running on 1GHz there is almost no temperature increase when working in sice. i wonder if anyone knows a tool to reduce the GHz even the notebook is on AC.

There are often BIOS settings for this with those mobile processors, don't you have any?

just for the case anyone is interested:
if youre using an intel mobile cpu you can throttle your cpu's performance with a tool called speedstep(developed by intel). it allows you to manually reduce your cpus performance to some given settings. i tried it for a few times an it works pretty well. problem with softice overheating the cpu is solved

I've also noticed shorter battery lifetime when using softice (just a consequence of what you mentionned earlier).. This will probably help me with that as well.
thanks.
