Hi. I'm learning how to crack. But most of the tutorials are target based. Now the biggest problem is to find the target. In almost all the cases, the newer versions of the shareware is available for download, wherein the protection scheme has been changed.

So how to get the targets?? Can somebody help me. I have had some practice with ORC packs, but thats it.

Any advice is welcome

Google, my friend.

There are websites out there that offer old shareware files. Some tutorials on the Krobar website deal with specific targets & you have a 60% approx. (my experience) of finding these targets on these sites. Also you might want to try P2P networks & search them through for targets.

Good luck.

you can also try
1. contacting the authors of the tutorials
2. finding newer tutorials

On the other hand, if the tutorial isn't too old, you can find newer version of the target and the chance is that the protection scheme isn't too different. Here you can use the tutor as the clue of what to look for and then find the rest on your own. I used this approach and in most of cases you can learn more then just following "there is jne at addr XXX so lets NOP it...".
