For those of you who have been pestering me by PM about access to Exetools I can report that this morning Aaron appears to have set the main Forums for viewing by non-registered guests.

At the moment new registrations remain closed and I have no idea when they may be re-opened. That decision is solely up to Aaron and he has said they will remain closed for the remainder of the year. You'll simply have to continue to visit and see if it has re-open. He is still in the process of culling the membership list of those who registered only to gain access to the ftp. The "membership" is now down from 14,000+ to 3,800+ and still gradually going down. Those who do not post for six months or do not visit for three months are being deleted.

Even if he re-opens registration soon, no one who registers gains access to the ftp immediately. At the moment 10 posts of some substance are required (meaning "thank you" is not sufficient and posts seeming to have been made just for post count are deleted), although consideration is given to those who do not post, but do upload the approporate materials. Limits on what is acceptible have also been enforced.

While "guest" will be able to visit most of the Forums and read the posts, they will not be able to download attachments and will not have access to the ftp password or the ftp.

Again, I do not make these policies, so there is no point in sending me a PM complaining about such things, or asking me to do something about them, or asking that I get you or a friend a membership.

JMI, i saw that you posted yesterday, "Most ebooks are available in a great many other places"... could you post or privmsg some of those places? apparently i'm a bit out-of-the-loop when it comes to the ebook "scene"

also, i think many ppl on this board would be interested in such places if they're stable

thanks

I'm not too up on the ebook scene either, but there is a long thread on exetools where one will find a great many places listed with ebooks available:

http://www.exetools.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3440

I have not visited nor attempted to download books from these sites, so it's catch as catch can.

Since you are tired of people sending you pm's I will just ask it here.

Can you get me hooked up over at exe tools ?

No, but I did register you at a couple of porn sites which always send you worms and/or trojans when you attempt to sign in. Just to keep your registry cleaning techniques up to snuff.

you might try the newsgroups as well. A lot of interesting stuff rolls through the likes of:

alt.binaries.e-books
alt.binaries.e-books.technical

There was a really good book came through recently by Kris Kaspersky (Hacker Disassembly Uncovered). Don't know if he is 'the' Kaspersky from AVP. Talks about Softice and IDA.

Actually, it's been on a break over here for a while, but returned yesterday, wohoo (although with some crappy spinoff-series-starter-episode which Catherine Bell was hardly in, but anyway).

But I did search on google before asking about the porn sites, but couldn't find any, I promise.

You couldn't find any porn sites or any with the "extra" features I promised Woody?

For those of you who may be interested, it appears that Aaron has reopened registration on the exetools forum again. This will NOT get you automatic access to the FTP, however, that still requires at least 10 posts of some content. Thank-yous by those who don't already have 10 or more posts are simply deleted and will not count.
