View Full Version : More problems with XP SP2...

Another funny surprise in Windows XP SP2 is apparently a hard-coded limit for the number of uncompleted outbound TCP connections per second, set to 10. This does among other things mess up most file sharing software pretty badly.

Here is more info, and also a fix:

And for those not checking around for possible solutions for this issue (did anyone mention dELTA? ) there has been some patch and revised patch code posted on exetools for nearly two weeks.

I'm too slow to compete with JMI
You were using that 'quick reply' feature weren't you?

Nope. Just the ordinary sloooooow one. I just happened to drop in a few moments before you and already had exetools open in another window, doing my regular pruning.

Well, who needs to check around, as I said in the original post there's already a fix at the link I gave (meaning both info for manual patching and an automatic patcher), and they're not even pulling any stupid PR tricks like demanding you to be a member to download the goodies.

And, of course, as dELTA knows, you only need a measly 3 posts on exetools to download attachments and if he was REALLY paying attention, he would have noticed that the exetools post listed the SAME german page he posted here.

Registering membership, submitting three posts, paying attention, god damnit that board is demanding.

And because of that, I thought I'd offer this information to everyone who has SOMETHING else to do than reading every last post on every damn board on the entire net, and instead decide to only stick to the best one, ok?

If we were sticking with only reading the best forum on the net, how would we have spotted your post in this one

Here's actually a report of a benefit of SP2 in the functioning of Olly after a pause and an attempt to then step into the program again with F7. Thanks to MaRKuS-DJM. You will find his comment here:

Here's another potential problem with SP2, from an article reported by ferrari over at exetools, titled: "Top Threat: Windows Security Center Spoof"

There's quite a few new issues appearing... Some internet explorer spoofing problems too... Give it some time, SP2 is not going to have that much of an impact on security. Just like everything else, it will fix whats known and create new issues to be found.
