Ok, let's make a long flaming session a little shorter. What version of Softice/DriverStudio are you using, and at what service pack level is your WinXP?

SoftICE 4.05 for NT (During the install it said something about NT 5 (also known as xp) and that builds over this number require read-only protection to be disabled or something like that, i hit yes, it rebooted, then continued installing leading me to believe it supports, well should, XP...) oh, sp1 too

Softice questions
Softice + XP, is it possible?
It's possible but sometimes not so easy, you need to install DriverStudio (v3.1 at the moment).
Most of the problems are related with settings like video, mouse and/or keyboard. The most stupid (and maybe right) answer to solve this problems is: try all the possible available settings and browse Compuware site for bugs (and patch...).
There are some threads that may help you, here is one of them:
http://www.woodmann.net/forum/showthread.php?t=5335

There are big red letter on top of the main forum lazy ass

I was just about to suggest you'd reevaluate your opinion of having "searched these forums", and prepare to get flamed, but I was apparently too late...

90% of all XP + Softice related threads has the answer "Use DriverStudio 3.1" and yes, there is an explicit paragraph about it in the FAQ too, and yes, that's the FAQ pointed to by the big red letters on the main page, that says you should read it before posting...

Yeah, that double FAQ link has annoyed me too, so I just fixed it. Congratulations, you were the last one to be able to use that as a valid excuse. Good luck with the Softice props now.

And, of course you DID READ these instructions in the title of the "Tools of the Trade Forum":

Do not ask where to get the Tools of our Trade. Do not even think about asking for them.

But your post above was just complaining, not really a request for help, right.

actually, i did read that... i was just complaining (hence me saying arg)... stupid thing... everywhere has SoftICE... but nooo, not DriverStudio... whats worse is that i already have it somewhere on one of the 3 box's i have... somewhere in a mess of 300gb spread out amoung 3 box's (not evenly of course)... searching the internet for it... or searching my hdds... that is the question... which is harder... thats another...

The "thumbs-up" smilie was an indication that I was giving you that benefit of the doubt. Remember also that some things said are posted as a "warnings" to those who come along after the original poster, in the hope they might not read your statement "the other way."
