OK all,
I know I've been at this for a long time now, but I'm nowhere near to the Flexlm crack that I've been expecting. Anyways, an interesting observation, which I thought many would have noticed and am wondering _WHERE_ and _HOW_ exactly it is that it happens and to overcome it...
1. Download software protected by Flexlm
2. Download any EVALUATION key (typically with START and END dates)
3. Install application and EVALUATION key. Run the application. See how nicely it runs...
4. Exit the app and push your date, say, a YEAR forward using the typical date and time control applet.
5. Run the application again. Ohhh. It now says expired.
6. Turn the date back to the current date. BAM! Its _STILL_ expired. Awww...guess I lost the evaluation also.
7. But wait!!....
8. In XP (Ya, I use XP, dunno about other OS), run Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Cleanup. Let the process finish.
9. Reboot the machine (V.Important)
10. Once the machine comes on again, run the application.
11. VOILA!!! It runs again (albeit in an evaluation mode..)
The flexlm protected application which I am using is not dependent on the date (what it means is: I am OK to work with this application using an old date also..unlike some applications where to get correct results you have to use current date).
I am also not averse to changing the date _EVERYTIME_ to a back dated time so that the app works.
My only issue is running Disk Cleanup everytime. My question is, if the same indeed happens, then there is something in FLEXLM that says that the date is backwarded/forwarded. But that something disappears during Disk cleanup.
Can some guru in Flexlm guide me on why this is happening? I can only think of temp files and that is all that the Disk cleanup clears.
Ideas anyone?
