Disclaimer: I am NOT asking for links to warez
I'd like to learn about commercial CD protections like Safedisc, Securom etc., but how could I get hold of a target without actually buying commercial games or apps? Or is there any way I could practice without such a target? Thanks in advance for replies, PMs are also very welcome

download a patch update for a game protected with the protection you are interested in, hope you can extract the files without having to have the game installed.. u might get lucky..

Well, interesting topic.

I fail to crack these protections all of the time.

The old resources one can find about these protections are no longer valid. Well maybe one or two well known facts are still true (like whole protection in one .exe, etc.), but most (if not everything) has changed.

If anyone has any informations about current versions of safedisc or securom please share them here.

Sorry for thread-hijacking.

Hi,
If you are looking for targets, Safecast can be found in Bo0nty games, distributed by Yaho0 (for example: Clued0).

R3v3nG3:

How about you quite trying to appear "L33t0" with the stupid spellings. It really has the opposite effect.
Or didn't you realize that?

eh... what... eh... uh...
S0rry, t0o stup1d t0 real1z3 th4t...

PS: It was only to avoid appearing in search like: Yaho*, Clued* and Bo*nty, Safecast instead is spelled correctly.

are there any ways to analyze a cd or an installed prog for what type of protection tehre is?
i tried something liek safedisk analyzer but that is only for safedisks....
and only for old versions....
are there any other ones that can tell me what the protection is?

Yeah, the best one is called "google"...

http://www.google.com/search?q=analyze+cd+protection+tool

(and yes, using the "I'm feeling lucky" button will get you more than enough tools too...)

And notice the use of multiple words as the search criteria. This is an extremely useful technique that may be used to attempt to focus a search down closer to the specifics of what you really, really want to find.

For those who are looking for a game with a particular protection: there are protection databases. This one is wonderful, you can search by protection (and even by version):

My problem is solved so far ;-)

i remember Clony used to do a decent job at this. no idea if it's been updated in the past few years, though.
