Dont u hate a newbie?
Ok.. i have a dongel emulator and a "trial" that has exspired. This trile when clicked on, modifies the registery. I have tried to open it in hex editors and a few other programs with luck. Now, i have no idea what I am looking for, to remove the trial limitations. The only programing i know (badly) is html.
I think my first question is. where do i start? Am I on the right track? hints? sugestions? tips?

You can not run before you learn to crawl. If you want to reverse code engineer, you need a reasonably good understanding of the assembly language code you see in most debuggers and/or disassemblers. You need to find a copy of "The Art of Assembly." If you put that title in the search box here (without the quotes) or in your favorite search engine, you will find versions of the file in .pdf, html, and maybe others.

Once you have that and have digested some of the information, you need to search, here and on the net, for information on dongle reversing. If you know that your program modifies a registry entry, there are a number of programs available which could help you track what is being changed. Read up, here and on the net, on "registry monitors", such as regmon, for starters.

It would be essentially useless for you to simply jump into the swamp with NO IDEA what lies under the surface, and until you do some studying, and preferrably, alot of studying, you are certain to step into quicksand very soon. There is NO shortcut to taking the time necessary to LEARN the basics and not controlling your desire to simply stumble blindly through the swamp becuase you wanna get somewhere NOW is neither useful nor productive.
But, it is your choice.

You also need to actually READ the FAQ, because the form of your question shows that you really haven't.

its sent2004. the file that i beleave has the trial limitation is for the reg.
I already have 4 full licened dongels. I have a computer that the paralel port is not working any more (i have checked everything its the port).
Its more like the company that owns the license are totalt (CENCORED) and will not replace one of my dongels with a usb dongel with out me having to spend $2200 in a program upgrade. And my business (event photography) is not doing all that well either. I really dont have the $460 to buy the emulator for this program. Im just trying to make it through the winter with enough licenses to do the job right. just being down one computer hurts my sales baldy

whowho,

My PM was RE whether the dongles were flexid - I might have been able to help you some with that, but it appears you have the superpro variety, a low cost/no work option, worth a try, is to buy an I/O card - that may give you a working parallel port again - you could probably find one for 10 or 15 bucks.
