It is GREAT to have woodmann.com back up and running. Thanks to all who who helped get it back up for all of their efforts.

I noticed that all attached ZIP files I have downloaded seem to be corrupt , also many of the users avatars seem corrupted as well. Were all binary objects corrupted somehow? It so, This is a GREAT loss to this board

thanks

Nothing is "lost." Some things may not yet be installed correctly. Also of the avatar issues were, I believe, fixed earlier in the evening. I haven't looked at the zip files (attachments) yet, but they definately are not "gone." I have several sets on my HD.

Yes unfortunately, zip attachments seem to be corrupted, but as JMI said not lost by a longshot. That too will be sorted out soon.

Just as a note, RE-PAIR zip file is still corrupt, in the TOT forum, if you need it get it from the RET site.

Thanks...
but the files I need to finish a project I have been working on cannot be found anywhere else. They were custom made in the mini-project section.

Hi,

There is a tool called zipfix.You can try your luck on google

The problem with the zip files appears to be related to the use of mySQL v4.1.9 which is not fully compatible with vBulletin and we are in the process of downgrading back to a 4.0.20+ version of mySQL. I have working copies of all the zip files and will have even our current setup working shortly. Real World work sometimes intrudes on fun.

@esther...
Thanks, but I have tried this and many other supessed zip repair utilities with no luck.

@JMI
Thank you as always for all your work here. I don't however think the problem is between mySQL v4.1.9 and vBulletin (Newly uploaded ZIP files seem fine). It seems more logical that all BLOB's in the mySQL database were corrupted during the mysql conversion. Upgrading from MySQL 4.0 to MySQL 4.1.x is required to first backup all data, uninstall MySQL 4.0, then install MySQL 4.1.x, restore all data. During the restore, if you didn't sepcify the default character set specifically, you may have accidentally selected a different character set, causing binary file corruption during the restore.

Anyway, good luck sorting this out

Thanks, but I am aware of all that. The "default" characterset of our old mySQL was Latin_1. The default set of version 4.1.+ seems to be Latin_1 Swedish, which may be fine for our young master Svensk, but does seem to have corrupted the zip files and avatars. Originally, dELTA made a backup of the database, just before the old server went dark. That backup was "restored" through the usual mySQL restore function and both the avatars and attachments were toast. Natuarally, the new ones work, because they were created with the new characterset. There is also the issue that we have gone through two vBulletin upgrades in the process and there may be some issues with the upgrades as they use the new mySQL.

I have since installed several copies of the actual database files on other working version of the forum that I downloaded a day before dELTA took the mySQL backup and have manually reinstalled all the avatars on the current database. This was not such a great task, because there were only 64 of them. However, there are over 830 attachments, so a manual approach does not seem as practical.

However, cutting and pasting them into some of the copies of the current database worked and others didn't and I suspect it is an issue of permissions for read and write. I am working through the options as I try to keep up with real world work as well and should have it working soon. On some of the test forums, avatars would work and attachments not, and on others the avatars didn't work and the attachments did, even though both came from the same source files and both were copied and pasted in, rather than "restored" through mySQL. Go figure why. Also we are in the process of downgrading the mySQL version because vBulletin recommends against v4.1.+, so that issue may go away and the old attachments from my back work correctly with only the few "new" attachments needing to be manually re-installed and most of them are simply text files anyway.

And it shouldn't be difficult to "rescue" a particular zip file for completion of your project, if you can identify it, I probably can upload it here for you.

d3d_proj_2.zip (http://www.woodmann.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1131) and targetInjected.zip (http://www.woodmann.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1132)

I can u/l the files here because
a) I'm in the neighbourhood
b) Your request is reasonable since they are miniproject, not "cracking" related files
c) I wanted to see what went wrong with the corrupted files
d) We want JMI to work for his 3000+ post

Re c), I compared the 2 corrupted files with their original versions and found a very strange thing. It seems *every* occurrence of the bytes 81, 8D, 8F, 90, and 9D in the corrupted zip files were replaced by the single byte 3F. So, if this were a Latin_1 Swedish error of mySQL, what the Svensk is the difference between the 2 charactersets that it would modify those bytes while installing? If the avatars were similarly corrupted, it might explain why they only displayed a few lines of the image.

It is great to see the RCE back. Thought that I had lost an old friend for a while. Thanks to all for keeping this Forum going. The Forum has been a valuable asset for many years.

Kayaker - good thinking to u/l the files. It was the right thing to do.

Kugi, I'm glad to see that you keep finding the Forum after all the moves, shuffles, ducks, feints and head bobs it's forced to undergo occasionally. None of the blows hit very hard though. RCE shall survive. Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee...

Howdy,

Was he Cassius Clay or Muhammad Ali when he said that ???

I believe it was actually Lou Alcindor!

Cassius begat Muhammad in '64 after beating Sonny Liston, the stinging butterfly emerged soon after I believe. Someone else might have invented it, but the phrase always seems ascribed to Ali.

Lew Alcindor? Butterflies, Bees and Basketball??

Just playing with "another" famous name change.

And Cassius/Muhammad's "motto" said nothing about a "stinging butterfly." I remember watching him when the statement was made on TV. It was " Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee" a phrase coined by corner man Drew "Bundini" Brown

Not to be confused with his "rope-a-dope."
