Geesh! I know it's not happy reading but the good news is no one was convicted for reversing, just for illegal distribution of copywritten material, I kinda wonder if I should have posted this, since I posted it there have been zero posts here.

DoD? But that group was already busted in that high publicity bust many years ago? Did someone mix up some facts, or what's up with that?

AFAIK DoD, the warez bears from Russia are long gone. Different members joined different groups as is often the case. I rember reading about a DoD bust years ago, same with PWA.
All I can think of is that it is another group of individuals using that group name. I think this is true of Quartex too. They used to realise great Amiga and console games. The PC division leaves a lot to be desired, I can't help but feeling their group name has been hijaked also.

Yeah, I guess so. Really clever to steal a group name that the feds already have their name on...

I guess we can just wait and see if someone is clever enough to use it a
third time now.

No, these are the "original" DOD'ers that have been "busted". The authorities are unbelievably slow in bringing prosecutions. The publicity a few years back I believe was the "smashing" of the "piracy ring" (and I'm on a quote mark roll today). The recent news is some people in Europe have been actually convicted. There's an article over on The Register today if you're interested. I'm guessing it took this many years to explain to a Judge what warez, cracking, piracy, the internet, computers, electrons etc are.
*edit* Ok, there WAS an article about it on The Register. I'm sure a trawl of the BBC/Sky News websites will locate the information about the UK prosecutions.

HUH!,
Was my link not good? I thought it was obvious that these were the people from the original bust, although the link was listed on another site with a title that made it sound as though this was a new bust, I allways read this kind of stuff, just to see how much of the reporting is bogus or an obvious scare tactic, I remember reading an article shortly after the MDCA was passed that had a guy in NY being arrested, tried convicted and sentenced for movie piracy in less than 2 wks. time - absolutely impossible in the US an obvious fake story.
