Hello

I have a copy of PathFinder Office and dongle and activation disk....however, when I install program it indicates that the disk or dongle contain nothing.
Is there a way to determine if the dongle does indeed have an activation code?
Is there a way to "force" the dongle to accept the information on the activation list?

All this may sound very lame, but this is my first encounter with "dongles".

Thank you for any insights.

After reading some more things...in this forum and on-line...I have figured out that my dongle is an old SSI (Activator).
I have found several small reader programs which will look at the key and seem to store a code. I am kinda wary of these as in the software instructions it indicates that the code can be lost if transfered to a computer?
So I am wondering if these are just holding my key for ransom.

Now I need to find a good tutorial on how to take this code and use it ....

...back to Woodmans stuff I guess....

Howdy,

I dont know how old that stuff is but....
You may have to run a utility contained in the software to install
the dongle. Search the CD or installation disc.

I would like to thank Woodmann for his insights.

After reading more on this site...I went to a site that seemed to have some old Activator stuff and downloaded some free programs.
One was a simple one to change the LPT rate.....and that or one of the other....may have made the software recognise the old dongle....at least the program no longer say "demo" on it....so now I have to load some GPS data into it and see if it will let me save the points...if not...then nothing will have changed.....

This is interesting stuff....i always wonder how a dongle worked....
