I have been asked to rip a game by a friend & had no problems bypassing the cd checks.

The problem is 'ripping' the un-needed sound and video files.
They are contained iin 4 big files, but i cant open them in any program.
I have no idea how to extract or index the files?

Any help welcome

Reverse the executable and find out where those files are manipulated. Sounds easier than it actually is, though.

Ok, I have found the references to the files....
How would I go about unpacking them?

All I want to do is pack them better.
At the moment I'm using Uharc v0.6 to pack them.

This only packs them to 96% though!
And because they aren't wav I cant find a program to pack them

If you are lucky, then the big file format is known and has already been reversed. Games like C&C, IDSoftware-based game, Blizzard-games (Warcraft, ...), usually have their big file format either fully documented or reversed and unpackable.

Otherwise, you don't really have the choice, but to reverse-engineer the 'secret' file format.

I don't think that manually dumping each file from memory is a viable solution.

Could they be headerless MP3 by any chance?

The file format should have no impact on how successfully you can compress the file. Any old gzip library will compress any binary string you send to it as well as it can. However, if you can only get 96% out of them, they're probably already MP3, OGG, AAC or some other heavily compressed format.

Hi,
you could use mripper for ripping them off from this big file.
