Is there a way for free internet access without paying, ads, or any commercial tricks?

Without a WLAN as LLXX suggests, you're forced to at least pay for dialup costs. Unless of course you get out your multicoloured boxes, dust them off and hop in your handy time machine...

It's quite possible on some poorly protected cable networks (best results when using Motorola Surfboard cable modems).

I have 3 different local wireless nets to choose from - I leave my own unprotected also - I'm not networked and I generally turn off my computer during the day.
