Not that many people around here need this, but VMWare just came out with a free "VM player" . It's actually pretty cool. Check out their website to grab a copy and play with it.

And you could use it like VMWare workstation if you know how to set options in *.vmx files

Can you really simulate/restore e.g. the snapshot feature that way?
