I read somewhere that virtualization technology is the next generation.
Can someone please explain to me what it means?

Doesn't seem too useful... it just seems hardware is getting more and more complex... and as well wasn't the V86 mode of the 386+ already similar to this?

IBM VM/CMS. Dunno exactly why SW/HW virtualization is suddenly being rediscovered.
