I don't know how many skilled reverse engineers out there have a bachelor's degree but I would say the margin is definitely smaller of those that do not vs. that do, and are willing to perform such work - or have the actual skill and knowledge to do so effectively.

Howdy,

I think you can prove yourself for such a position.
It's not really the degree but the ability. How many people out there actually work in the field they got a degree in ?

Also, a bachelors degree in what ? Computer sciences ? Math ?

Those who can Reverse Engineer should not let anything deter them.

"Reverse engineering peer-to-peer networks" <-- I assume they mean the protocols, not the networks.

nikola, I have a BS in CS and can vouch for you if you like.

Well, currently I'm happy where I am (with a very large scientific instrument company) but I thought it would be interesting to see what jobs were out there especially referring to RCE, and found it strange that such a "requirement" would be put forth.

I think it's quite likely they're using it as a filtering mechanism. I'm sure there's a lot of people who would apply for that position that don't have anything like the skill required, so a largely irrelevant bar to application is used to stop those people applying. They're probably banking on people who do have the skills/experience for that position but do not tick all the little boxes applying anyway. Common recruitment tactic.
