Might be something to try for u ppz with nvidia cards and win2k... Until now I had major problems using softice with this combo. However with the new detonator7.52 drivers everything seems to be working.

At first when using a colourdepth of 32 bit the normal problems arose, softice wouldn't pop up (atleast, it would pop up but u couldn't see it). However when I changed the colourdepth to 16 bit it DID work as normal. With the previous detonator drivers switching between colourdepths also solved the problem temporarily but now I'm running at 16-bit for 2 to 3 days and all this time softice is working just fine. (Btw, I'm using DriverStudio 2.0).

So perhaps the problems are finally (on their way to be) solved? I sure hope so... Anywayz, if anyone else wants to try it and give their results here, coz I wonder if it's pure luck/coincidence/temporary or really finally working.

Take care and greetz,

DGR

No luck on my PC

Where can I get driverstudio 2 (im using sice 4.05, which is a slightly older revision than that with driverstudio 2)

Changing colour depth on other detonators didn't help me either, only solution is 5.32 or earlier for me, which sucks.

Maybe the new 10.50 drivers (with geforce 3 support) will help when the win2k version is released.

Those wanting to try (please post your results) all drivers can be found at http://www.the-ctrl-alt-del.com/Drivers.htm

Sorry to hear that ppz, switching to Driverstudio2.0 might help... the softice version is 4.05 (Build 526). Also, I'm using windows2000 Servicepack1, don't think that's of any influence tho.

Maybe it also depends on the card you have (Geforce2 MX here), dunno... I do know that I'll pray every night that it keeps working.

Take care,

I've tried the 7.52 drivers with no luck as well. I'm running Win2k+SP1, and running in 16-bit color didn't work for me, either.

I've been using SoftICE 4.05 with the 5.32 drivers. I run into the nv4_disp loop problem, too, so I end up having to hboot a lot.

I didn't know that the 5.22 drivers worked well! I'm going to use those now.

Damn, this really freaks me out... why does it seem to work for me but not for anyone else?

Could it be the Driverstudio version of softice, else... no clue.

I've DriverStudio 2.0 installed and the Softice problem comes and goes.
The driver version (at least the newer ones) don't make much of a difference.
Reinstalling Softice after updating the drivers, helps initially until I run some graphics intensive program (usually protected ones in case they cause the problem (?)).
One thing you might try instead of switching drivers just to run Softice: go the driver's Properties and bring down the hardware acceleration level until Softice works, usually at level 1 or 2.

Could someone with Numega Driverstudio 2 please upload their NTICE.SYS file somewhere (probably in System32 dir, do a search) and give us a link, it may help those of us without driverstudio 2 if we overwrite our current one.

Hi all,
Well someone was kind enough to send me DriverStudio 2, and its fixed my softice problem.

Win2k + Nvdia Geforce 2 64mb GTS on 11.01 detonator + Sice Driverstudio 2.0.0 build 526

All works fine.

Miscreant.

As of now it works fine.
TNT2 Ultra, Detonators 12.0, Win2K-SP1, DriverStudio 2.0.1 (1280x1024x32).
The previous DriverStudio 2.0 would work randomly with any drivers up to 12.00.
The 2.0.1 beta wouldn't install all components.
So, I removed the previous NVidia driver and manually cleaned up the settings from the registry, booted up in VGA and installed the new drivers.
I tried to install 2.0.1 final, but it also wouldn't install all components.
I manually cleaned up the DriverStudio 2.0 (files and registry) and rebooted.
This time 2.0.1 installed properly and as of now it works fine.
The SIWVID start-up message started showing up after the aborted DriverStudio 2.0.1 partial installations.
That was because of the incomplete installation.
The SIWVID in question was still in a Temp directory under \Documents and Settings.
I got rid of it when I cleaned up the old DriverStudio and after reinstalling, it ended up where it was supposed to be.
As for problems with the drivers (12.00) I started getting some occasional waving of the screen soon as I installed them (but not with 11.01). It lasts about 10 seconds and goes away for hours. Looks like there's a frequency stability problem somewhere. I run them at 85Hz. The monitor could go higher but the drivers don't, without patching.
