After the OllyDbg support forums being closed down by TBD a while ago, we just couldn't stand them being lost forever. So, with the blessing of Oleh himself (and TBD), we have now taken over them and integrated them into the RCE board! (including all old posts!)

You can find them in the RCE forum index, so go ahead and take a look right away!

To become the definitive OllyDbg resource, we have also taken over the OllyStuph collection of plugins, which we will try to keep just as good and updated as before (well, even better and more updated actually ):

http://www.woodmann.com/ollystuph/

Now, go spread the word around the net, see you on in the forums!

Does TBD refer to TurBo Debugger? (heh!)

TBD was the former host of the OllyDbg support forums, but he closed shop a while ago, so we took them over.

The OllyDbg forum is a exceptional resource which was surely missed along with some very helpful moderators and members on there. I hadn't long joined on there and was starting to learn a great deal familiarising myself with the tool and it's many options.

It's great to see that it back with a new home, I hope it continues to be a success and grows from strength to strength.

I was wondering if it would be possible to create a .chm archive of this for download? That way I could edit it to hopefully produce a kind of FAQ come user manual of sorts that people can reference offline to their hearts content?

How large is the database?

the SQL database is ~4.5Mb, quite small for 4 years of postings but it will need a lot of handwork to make a good FAQ

Hi TBD, can you make it available for download please? I'd like to have a go at this but I wouldn't want anyone to expect it too soon as it would be a spare time project. If any of the forum members would like to tell me how to convert the database to .CHM and what is the best approach for editing? Edit as database then convert or convert then edit?
I'm thinking probably the former method as you have the power of SQL at you disposal too?

Thanks for any hints and tips.

Uhm, interesting thought. We're just in the process of possibly updating the *complete* chm file archive of this site, but I could probably do one of the original Olly site itself.

I converted the orginal Olly DB (thanks TBD and Hiroshimator) into vBulletin format before its incorporation into the rest of the board, and I have the whole thing sitting on my home board. I can probably create a chm file of it in fairly short order and will find some suitable place to put it for those who would like it.

If you want to pre-edit the postings before creating a chm file, well, PM me if you wish. First of all it would require TBD's blessing. Then it would require you to be able to install, use and possibly convert from one board format to another. I had to first convert from the original miniBB to SMF (Simple Machines) format, then finally convert to vBulletin. This would require you to have installed a complete Apache/MySql/Php system on your home board.

You might be able to edit posts from within a miniBB or SMF board environment (both free). Ultimately you want to be able to create a series of html files from which you can compile a chm file.

Still interested in creating your own chm file?

If you want you can wait until I create one, since I already have a procedure for doing so from my home setup, then perhaps you can decompile it yourself or otherwise create the FAQ you might be trying for.

Cheers,
Kayaker

you can do whatever you want with the ODF forum database except selling it or charge for distribution

a FAQ it is a good way to retain all the info stored there and have it handy for quick searches

Excellent, a separate Olly chm archive would be great .

Sounds easy when you know how. Unfortunately, I just don't have the experience most of the systems you describe not to mention a home board.

Well at least I have a little some previous experience of editing html files and creating a compressed archive. That should be enough I hope.

Well, now that you mention it, I'd have to decline , although I think I'll patiently wait until you create one and then edit it from there. That's sounds like the most straightforward way of doing it for me anyway.

That's precisely what I'll do. Thankyou Kayaker.

That's Great TBD, thanks. I would have no intention to profit financially from it.

I agree a quick searchable reference is what the Olly forum always needed as I'm sure I don't need to remind you that the bb search function didn't seem to work. An offline resource would be a handy companion to help answer all those burning questions that may have been asked by someone before.

Google seemed to be the the best way to find that valuable information tucked away on the board.

OK, here for posterity sake is the original Olly forum in .chm format, unedited, uncensored, complete and unabridged. For mature eyes only. No refunds.

Enjoy,

You're welcome There is one other thing I can offer. If any of the original members of the Olly forum want, I can associate all of their former posts with their current user name and update their post count to reflect that. Then they can carry on posting as if nothing happened. The original posts and usernames from the olly forums will then be totally incorporated into our own existing database.

I did not import ANY of the user info from the original olly DB because there were 2386 members dating back to 2002, most were inactive or didn't match our existing user info database, it made no sense to do so and would have been a mess.

I can do this for those who wish, but I would like to do this as a one time offer only, because of the work involved. I have to first do an SQL query to get the current userid for each member already registered with us, then I have to execute an SQL command to associate that userid with the old Olly forum member name. Then, and this is the main reason I want to do this only once, I have to update a bunch of counters on the entire database - threads, posts, post count, similar threads and search/word indexes at the minimum. This is a server intensive operation and I don't want to be repeating it piecemeal for everyone.

All I require is a request to do so by PM, or a "Yo" in this thread, and reasonable proof/assurance you are who you say you are. If your "Olly" username was different from the nickname you are now using on our forums, that is OK, I can associate the two, but I better have proof of that fact (i.e. your original email address under which you registered at the Olly forums). You ain't going to be able to fool me

To that end, here are the top posters from the original olly forums and their post count. If you see your name here and wish to update those posts with your current name, let me know. I will let this go for at least a week or two to get everybody's answer and maybe copy this thread to the olly forum itself so everyone can see it. If you know anyone who might be interested in this, let them know.

Offers of beer will be considered suitable payment for this service Sound like a plan?

Thank you for taking the time to do this. I use the same username here (and exetools) as I did there (sgdt).

Could you have your mom send us a note so we know it's REALLY you?

Just kidding. After all, how would we know it REALLY was your mom???

I'd think Ricardo wants it too, seemingly holding both the #1 and #7 spots, under the names "Ricardo Narvaja" and "ricnar456"?

I've sent him a PM, but if he doesn't see it, let's associate him anyway.

Thanks kugi, nice to see you around. You don't post enough!

Of course we're all involved to varying degrees at varying times to keep this place running, secure and try to improve it, we all pitch in where we can, in no particular order, JMI, dELTA, 0xf001, ZaiRoN. And of course Woodmann pays for it all and lets us screw things up royally whenever possible We've got a good crew and we're always discussing issues of the board together.

Thanks should be given too to Blabberer for all this olly business, it was his request wondering if we could do something about the loss of the olly forum that started the ball rolling recently. He also asked if his 'olly' name could be regenerated in the database which is why I dug up an sql method to do so. So you see, user member feedback is important!

Cheers,
Kayaker

Hi Kayaker, a big thankyou to you for your efforts in creating the archive, I will doubtless enjoy sifting through the posts and learning as I go.

I'd really appreciate if you could merge my post count, this will bring me within spitting distance of the magic century .

Hi kayaker ,

well how can you prove that jekyll is hyde and vice versa ?

you can only come to a conclusion whether i am bluffing or not
i think you have met hyde and some of your collegues have met
jekyll probably all of you put together can corroborate and point to a circumstantial evidence that could lead to a consensus decision

thanks to all of you for taking the pains to save the forum

Hi Kayaker,

I would like to add my thanks for posting the original Olly forums in chm format, I have found some really useful tips in that compilation.

Cheers,
