Hi.
I have some questions about Sentinel dongles:

Producer of Sentinel are Rainbow technologies - why they have web pages and web services as SafeNet? SafeNet is something as parent company of Rainbow technologies?

They are three types of Sentinel dongles: Sentinel SuperPro, Sentinel UltraPro and Sentinel Hardware Key. What is the Sentinel LM?

I finding answers for this questiuons on the net, but I found nothing. Thanks for all the answers in this thread.
P.S. Sorry for my english.

On the web when you're searching it appears that Sentinel is a SafeNet product (or maybe only the support part ?)

hxxp://3w.safenet-inc.com/support/tech/sentinel.asp
(here we can see three versions you said above)

Sentinel LM stands for Licence Managment.

ps: all the informations above were found using a search engine.

regards,

I was search on the web and I visit SafeNet pages before I start this thread, but I don't understand the SafeNet/Rainbow policy (I don"t understand the relationship between that companies and they pages not help me with understanding this)...
Mentioned three versions of Sentinel I know, but I was read one tutorial to "Cracking Sentinel LM" (I don't remember an author of this tut) and I'am jiggered. LM is not any type of Sentinel protect (according to SafeNet pages) - Sentinel LM is "only" licence management of existing types Sentinel protections (but it is only my assumption - is it correct? ).

I found using their search tools that Rainbow and SafeNet merged together. Maybe Rainbow was the original Sentinel's developer but after some economical threat they "merged" to be a part of a bigger structure (i.e. the rainbow company were bought by SafeNet).

About Sentinel LM I do believe that 'LM' does not stand for a separated and real version of Sentinel. Maybe the _concept_ to manage licensing and rights.

You can still mail'em to ask this question

Howdy,

Sentinel LM is the license manager. It is used to generate and then register
valid versions of your software.

As for recent happenings with rainbow, I have no idea.

Hiya,

SafeNet acquired Rainbow Technologies about 2 1/2 years ago (this includes all of the dongle ranges previously shipped under the Rainbow brand).

SentinelLM was renamed to the Sentinel RMS Toolkit at v8 (unfortunately they forgot to update much of the technology which is very much SentinelLM, admittedly they did at least attempt to encrypt the Wlscgen.exe sections so generating licenses takes about 5 minutes longer).

SafeNet haven't done a great deal of development, the smart guys at Rainbow are probably sat on a beach somewhere exercising their stock options ;-).

Regards

CrackZ.

Hello,
thanks for explanation.

Sentinel LM is "only" toolkit. They are still three types of keys (SuperPro,UltraPro,HardwareKey), LM is only for managing this plugs (key programming, API implementation to application, etc. ) - Am I understanding correctly?

2 CrackZ & Woodmann & Silkut: Thx, for info about SafeNet and Rainbow - that is what I need...
(mailing with SafeNet? - ohh, it is not for me... )

I did some work for this company sometime back, they were into dongle protection for encrypted laptop harddrives (PC Card type), for non-consumer applications, they are not at the beach! just into the higher margin stuff - as for the LM series, I think, (and therfore I am wrong!), this series is also used for FlexLM dongles.
