Hi
Do you want the short or long explanation? The basic idea is to compile a series of html pages defining your forum into a chm file using Microsoft Html Workshop (HHW) or similar program. These html files can be downloaded using Teleport Pro from the forum site or a local setup if you have it.
All the stuff you see, postings, reply boxes, user info, registration pages, search function, styles and images, etc., etc., are all defined by .php files. Most of these php files are at the *same directory level* on the server. The problem with this is that Teleport Pro will pick up *all* the html pages defining the look and function of the site, linked through these php files, not just the postings themselves. Defining a standard Teleport Pro directory level filter doesn't help, so you end up getting a huge amount of html pages you may not want to compile into a chm file.
For this board we use vBulletin, which fortunately has a very nice Archive feature which displays the forum and postings in a readable format without all the extra board features. The Archive can be accessed from the bottom right hand corner of this page.
Now, if your forum happens to use vBulletin I can further detail how to convert the Archive into a chm file. We modified the Archive php script to support things like CODE/QUOTE/PHP tags, standard text formatting, and images, so it looks even better than the original. The CHM file is a direct compilation of the Archive script and the html pages it generates.
