Read the FAQ (http://www.woodmann.com/fravia/rce-faq.htm), especially the section called Beginner questions.

We have certain requirements of posters here on the RCE Forums. One of them is the requirement that Posters do their OWN homework before they post. That's why it appears in the
BIG RED LETTERS at the top of the Forums and under the signatures of new members.
You have
not demonstrated to us that you have done any of this. Start using your own brain and actually do some work before Posting!

Search for a user called DELTA, then read his signature...
But seriously, I think you may want to start off by reading some good tutorials by +ORC. The best for beginners.
Old stuff? Sure, but since you don't know squat, its time to get the hands dirty, and besides, it will help you understand breaking schemes at higher levels.
You can find the entire set of the +ORC tutorials at the links given in the FAQ (I hope).
Alternatively, you can ALSO read the very good assembly programming tutorials by ICZELION (also in the FAQ, I presume)
THEN, download the INTEL INSTRUCTION SET MANUAL (don't try to read it, you'll have to go the a dark Arkham with padded suit) but rather use it for reference to understand instructions.
Download IDA freeware and SOFTICE (you'll find it splattered all over the web). I'd advise NOT to go with Ollydbg or WinDBG as SOFTICE will give you a good idea of the internals. THEN you may try to use Ollydbg or WinDBG.
A good thing is to download the software and stop trying to crack, and instead spend about a week trying to completely understand the tools. The SOFTICE tutorial included in their manuals for Windows spelunking is perhaps the best I have ever read.
If you hear SentinelLM/Flexlm/Starforce/Securom - run from it. Try breaking (after you have read ALL the ORC and ICZELION tuts!) Winzip v7 and MIRC v5 or v6.
And voila! you are on your way. Getting stuck? Tell us what you have done and where you are stuck, and we'll help you out.

Yes. But not usually in "polite" company.
