What? The title says it all. Nothing to see here, move along..

Thanks again to Zairon for uploading the CHM file I emailed him, because I'm still too lameass to get a high speed connection to the server from home.

Enjoy,
RCE Team

Uh, logic overload . I'm trying to figure a situation where you have the bandwidth to email it but not to ftp it. Put me out of my misery!

Thanks for the update!

Ok, a hint: Certain places with higher speed internet than your home might have the disadvantage that certain addresses and certain services other than email might be blocked.

NO!!! THEY wouldn't do THAT, would THEY????? OH those evil employers. Don't they know we NEED our dose of RCE, even while we are at work???

So you mean there are people here who haven't completely owned all the networks they use on a regular basis? Shame on you!

Ok, but I still have to chase this one down. To generate the chm you'll need to interrogate the database, right? So you either have ssh access (but no ftp, hmmm), or you have a script (web-accessible) on the server that generates it for you (more likely). Both of those will leave you with a generated CHM file on your server, which you could just move to wherever you wanted but still needs to be taken off the server somehow. But you still have to email it, so perhaps you have remote mysql access (port, uh, 3306?) and you generate the CHM locally, although that's a bit unlikely if you don't have remote ftp access.

So I'm still left with the question of how you generate and get hold of it to email it but can't put it in a downloadable place on the server itself . Unless the script that generates the CHM has an "email to" option...

Curiosity killed the cat, huh. Perhaps you should say "keep your distance" to me . I really should spend my time more productively...

Ok, hint collection #2:

1.
CHM is a Windows format, thus, the best tools for generating it is running in the Windows operating system.

2.
Not all servers run the Windows operating system.

3.
There are more widely accepted/non-blocked service types for downloading data from a server than uploading data to it. *cough* http *cough*

4.
If all else fails, the process of ZaiRoN uploading a file that was emailed to him is also reversible.

And oh, yeah, keep your distance!

Ah dELTA, my friend, you are both fleet of foot and cold of weather. The one point you have artfully danced around, like a reindeer navigating the thin ice covering a fjord, is that as well as HTTP GET being very useful for downloading files, its evil half brother HTTP POST and PUT does exactly the reverse. I've heard some little start-up file services such as the relatively unknown "rapidshare" have had excellent results with this new-fangled technology when testing it under laboratory conditions...

Hehe, these procedures probably pre-date services like rapidshare (and if our server address is blocked from the named location, setting up our own upload script wouldn't work either), and you know what they say about teaching old kayakers new tricks... The rest of the defense I must leave up to the accused himself, I did my best to defend him anyway, the legal bill will be in the mail.

And yeah, you can bet your ass I'm in cold weather up here, having a new snow storm trying to kill me each time I leave the house this time of year...

Curious little devil ain't he? Them's good reversing traits at least. Thanks for trying anyway dELTA

It's also possible I don't access the server directly at all, be it front door, back door or even down the chimney. Since creating a chm file involves a compilation of html files to chm, maybe I just Teleport the forum and work with the leeched files that way.

That would be terribly inefficient though and you'd probably only get updates from me every 6 months or so, instead of every.. oh, er never mind..

There are clues elsewhere, where people have asked how to create a chm file from a forum, where I've described having a "home board" running with Apache/MySql/Php and the forum software fully set up. Now that sounds more efficient, just point your browsers to 127.0.0.1. All I need now is a current forum sql backup database, I'll just d/l it from the server... somehow

I could sent it to you by e-mail.
