Hi guys, has there been something up with the server for the last couple of days? I've had a hell of a time trying to get here, connection timeouts and no response from the server at all. Same thing happened last weekend too.

Fairly certain it's not my end, and doesn't look networky....

EDIT: It happened during two days before Silver posts there. I didn't tried anything about DNS stuff or pinging, I'm not that addicted to this place.. >8]

We have been doing some updating of some of the server software over the last week or more and trying a number of different configurations, but to my knowledge, the server has only been down a couple of time during that process.

I have not personally noticed a "slowdown" in response time during this process but I did have a similiar, "unexplained" experience several months ago where I was complaining to Woodmann and the rest of the staff that I was experiencing slowness in access very similiar to what you are describing. None of the rest of them were having the problem.

During this same period, my attempts to ping the server were taking about as long as what you reported and none of the other browsers I tried offered any improvement. This was all occurring back in August of this year. Then, as suddenly as it started, it went away.

The only thing which seemed as a possible identifier was that the sprintlink.net servers, through which my IP was routing, were apparently having some problems and then they were fixed.

Keep us advised if it continues and it would be helpful if you could indicate if it was happening at a particular time of the day, relative to Eastern Standard Time, which is Server time.

Not to impact on your thread and responses.

I tend to use a web-based ping/traceroute to determine if the site is up or down. Even using a web based proxy would determine if the site is responding.

Try dnsstuff.com for a simple interface to determine if the dns/ping etc is working for you.
I have had DNS lookup issues before which resolved themselves.

JMI, will do. It is random, unfortunately, and when it's not a connection timeout problem (dns resolution always works fine) it acts as though the site is under massive load.

Next time it happens I'll make a note and bounce off a proxy to see if the same is happening elsewhere.
