All documents in PalmPilot DOC reader format |
The USRobotics/3COM PalmPilot is one of the most interesting devices released in a long time.
Among its many useful programs, AportisDOC is one of the
more useful. I find myself preferring my PalmPilot with
AportisDOC to printouts and paperbacks in that my dedicated reading time is spent on the
subway commuting to work. With the helping hand of Pilot
Internet File Converter run by
chris@screwdriver.net, I was able to bring the resources of the Web to my pilot and my
commute. As I convert files for my consumption, I will add them to the library. I have also
taken it upon myself to provide an additional source for some specific reference DOCs found on
the mainstream sites. While I will not be including Pilot reference materials which are abundant
on other DOC sites, I will (soon) be including reference materials which I want to make sure don't
disappear from the net such as the instructions for remote operation of the different answering
machine models. I have added my own's instructions and would be willing to
accept contributions from others out there to be included
in the library here. I can accept .TXT, MS Word or .prc so fire away. It might make for a
unique resource.
The following reference documents are in PalmPilot
AportisDOC format. The links themselves are .prc files (with the exception of the
.ZIP'd files which are collections of .prc files). You will need to run INSTAPP.EXE
(or equivalent) which came on the CD with your Pilot and select the .prc files to load
them onto your PalmPilot. Next time you hot-sync, they will appear as 'unfiled' documents
in the DOC reader. If you didn't already know this, you're probably also unaware that the
DOC reader was available for FREE from PalmGlyph
Software but now is available from AportisDOC for
a fee. Before installing any of the documents below, use INSTAPP.EXE (or equivalent) to
install AportisDOC. Then you can install the .prc files below.
Finally, clicking on the separaters (the bar with the book in the middle) will
bring you to the card catalog. This includes the separator at the top of this page.
Be sure to check out the
L0pht Pilot Projects Page. It includes software releases from Mudge and Kingpin and
will keep you abreast of Pilot related developments here at L0pht..

L0pht Advisories in PalmPilot DOC reader format:
The L0pht spends a considerable amount of time researching and documenting vulnerabilities
in software and hardware. They share some of it with you online at
http://www.l0pht.com/advisories.html
and it's all available here in AporatisDOC format.

When I started having to maintain NT, I figured it was time to get up to speed on the
security side as that usually helps me learn the details I need to know for a good deal
of the maintenance and setup I will encounter. Where else to start but by actually reading
some of the 6 plus months of the ntsec mailing list I had sitting in a POP mailbox. I
broke the messages down into 7 rather large .prc files. The .prc file size is listed and
just over half the resulting DOC file memory consumption (ie., NTSEC7.prc is 257k in .prc
format but is 425k in the DOC reader). For this reason, I have provided my original .txt
file in .zip format to allow the "memory challenged" to break it up into smaller bites.
The mailing list messages run from late June of 1997 through December of 1997. One
additional note is that I have not included messages which included a binary attachment,
which amounts to those which carried a digital signature or fingerprint (a bunch but
relatively very few) and a few programs which I
have included below.

And, the programs I mentioned above:
Probably the best read I have had, ever. This paper by *Hobbit* cruises CIFS from 20,000
feet, right down to ground zero. Some of charts and diagrams are best viewed on a full
screen but you can read the meat of this puppy on your Pilot with no problem. A rather large
file, I have broken it into two Parts. The split is for no significant reason. The original
paper is available at
http://avian.org/avian/papers/cifs.txt
Simple Nomad's NT HACK FAQ is a must read for any NT administrator. When I started to
maintain NT, I converted these files (version 2 - 10/25/97) over to PalmGlyph DOC reader format (purchased later
by Aporatis and renamed AporatisDOC). The originals are online at
http://www.nmrc.org along with a good number of other
resources.
All 11 files are available in .ZIP format.
I haven't administered Netware since 4.1 was released and my company jumped out of
bindery emulation mode and thought I was more useful where they knew nothing - the
Unix side, but after leeching the NT Hack FAQ into DOC format I thought, why not leech
the NetWare Hack FAQ. So I did just that (version 6 - 05/01/97). The originals are
online at http://www.nmrc.org.
NetWare HACK FAQ in Pilot DOC reader format:
All 15 files are available in .ZIP format.
I have, for some odd reason, found the instructions for remote opertaion of various answering
machines floating around the DOC sites. In an effort to make sure they remain on the net, I
present them here and add my own to the collection as well.
KingPin has ported a few Apple ][ pr0n
classics to the Palm Pilot and has made them available as a package called "Hairy Palm".
Be sure to check out Kingpin's
PalmPilot Page for this and other L0pht Palm Pilot projects.
