Lawyer Demands Curtailment of Information on CRV Home Page

On June 4, 1996, I received a letter from a lawyer, Mr. David Dantes, demanding that I remove some of the information on the CRV Home Page, specifically, ALL material which contains the name of Mr. Ed Dames. It said that his unnamed client considers the material to be defamatory in nature, and demands that it be removed immediately. In my desire for fairness, I temporarily removed five items in order to have them checked for defamatory material. During the time this information was removed, it was reviewed and re-researched for facts about which I was not completely certain and/or did not have concrete proof, with the result that I found ALL of the material presented to be either Mr. Dames' own statements, reports of his public media activities, biographic material, or someone's personal opinions. Any material which does not fit into those categories is now confirmed to be actual fact by material now in my possession.

Both at the suggestion of counsel and because of my own desire to report on the continuing story of the government-sponsored project and the on-going development of post-government CRV, I have reposted all the pages in question. I have also decided to post both Mr. Dantes' letter and my answer as open, public documents. All of the material which was in question may be accessed normally, through menu selection, or via links from my answer letter. Any further developments in this situation will be posted, as well, since even this is a part of the on-going history of post-governmental control of CRV technology.

The letter from Mr. Dantes and my resulting answer can be accessed by clicking on the titles below:
