I am sorry for no funny news or anything. I am really busy and so are the other people in Moloch are too. I will update you on the news later tonight and possibly through-out the weekend.

Move over Bin Laden, we got other people to hunt
Yes, as America lets its guard down further and further, forgetting about the terrorists attacks, we hunt others, Child Porn. Federal and state officials said on Wednesday that they were targeting up to 200 suspects in what they called the first undercover computer sting operation to combat child pornography.

It's funny on how they started targeting the suspects. They took down the site and put up a mirror to snag the bad guys. Cybercrime Officials sound more and more like they are entrapping instead of hunting, but hey I am sure Bin Laden is relieved that he doesn't serve porn. More here

Microsoft warns that their IM program is hackable
Microsoft stated that their IM program is hackable and all users should upgrade immediately. I didn't hear any further on how it is hackable but like any Microsoft announcement, they will not tell you exactly what the problem is. They recommend going to any MSN site and upgrading your client.

Hey, I DO NOT MURDER, whats with you guys
Taken from Cnn.com - Computer criminals would face increased penalties, and Internet users would face greater surveillance by access providers, under a bill approved on Wednesday by a House of Representatives panel.

Under current law, punishments for cybercrimes are based on the economic damage they cause, which often results in little or no jail time. The author of the "Melissa" computer virus, which caused $1.2 billion in damage, was sentenced last week to 20 months in prison and a $5,000 fine.

The bill would direct the U.S. Sentencing Commission to take into account the perpetrator's intent and other factors, such as whether sensitive government computers were the target. Read more here

A call to video people
If you have any hacking videos, computer instruction, or convention footage; please let me know. We can post it to Moloch.TV. I love watching videos while I work and there are not many sources for them. Defcon.org has a great media section but it has been down for a while. Hopefully it will come back up soon. In the meantime, I am doing a lot of work on new videos and you will see them soon. Just send me email at subs [at] moloch tv.

Yea! EU!, wait, whats this?
AP- The European Union agreed Tuesday to impose a new tax on products downloaded from the Internet - including software, videos and music - aiming to help Europe's Web-based businesses compete with U.S. companies.

Right on goverment, you can tax me while I buy the KY jelly, so it won't hurt next time you screw me.

Sure, take that away too!
I love California and all the laws and rules they try to put in place. Some are laughable and some are not. I am not a student but I was disturbed about this newest rule that I saw on FOX 11 news in LA. It seems that a certain high school is not letting student to participate in graduation ceremonies unless they have a college acception or military obligation. They will still graduate but now they aren't going to see their parents smiling from the crowd. It's just disturbing. I realize they said that this is supposed to motivate students to shoot for better jobs in the end and limit unemployment but hey, electro-shock therapy is a motivator as well.

So I tried RedHat 7.3 today
Well to cut to the chase, I thought it was sucky compared to RedHat 7.2. I put it on my laptop today and it appeared as if it had lots of bells and whistles. I didn't really see any improvements. I saw lots of disappointments. One thing I didn't like was no gnome desktop. It was just Nautilus on top of Gnome Libs. I tried to re-install Ximian but Ximian installer didn't recognize the distro that I was running. The RedHat Update Monitor looked cool but didn't appear to work, just gave a "Host not Found", which was really wierd. I pushed it and pulled it and it's not a great improvement, wait about a month and then try it.

tommEE loves to complain
Well now that CNN isn't posting the war against terrorism so much, they leave themselves space for more ad banner space. Bravo to them. What I am having trouble coping with is when I go to CNN.com and see there is video next to a story, I want to view it. We were able to in the past. Now CNN.com is part of the Real One subscription program. You would have to pay monthly just to access CNN video on your desktop. I don't fully understand this, especially for all the money CNN makes just from advertisers and such, they still want to make money off the news? News that charges you should be clasified as tabloid or entertainment. Don't charge for need to know.

Nice Weather but fucked up law makers
California Democrat Joe Baca has introduced a bill into the House of Representatives that would make it a federal crime to rent or sell video games showing violence, prostitution and drug use to anyone under the age of 17 without parental consent. So, who regulates this now, I thought we already had a Blockbuster? More here

Again with people sending me virii
I don't know who thinks that me and my pals are that silly but I recieved another lame email from someone who has no idea to disguise email headers. Give it up script kiddies. There are better ways to ruin someones days. One day I will show you but unfortunately I rather pull lint from my bellybutton. I hope no one else is silly enough to open an .exe file that comes through the mail.

Good Bye to OS9
Steve Jobs told everyone OS9 is to rest in peace. He said that the entire Apple office is 100% OSX. If he is right, that is kind of cool. I haven't been in any office 100% anything. A treat was a small peak of what next weeks anouncement is going to include was a sliver Apple rackmount server. Neat. Funny presentation though.

Does scenewhore come in a spray?
I was looking at cnn.com on the technology section and there is a story by Linda Rosencrance. The story is about a group called "Deceptive Duo". After reading the article, I noticed a couple of keywords, like "they said" and "he said". In a court, this would be heresay, in real life, I think it is called scenewhoring. I just thought the article had no merit to it. Check it out at http://www.cnn.com/2002/TECH/internet/05/06/national.security.hackers.idg/index.html

Man, another 20 months?
he admitted creator of the "Melissa Virus" that snarled e-mail worldwide received the same 20-month sentence on a New Jersey charge Friday that he did on a federal charge earlier this week.

David L. Smith also was fined $2,500 by state Superior Court Judge Lawrence M. Lawson on the single count of computer theft. More here.

RedHat 7.3 Released
Thats right, this morning RedHat 7.3 was released. The newest version of RedHat is supposed to include features like better firewalling and Video Conferencing. I would like to report on the stability and function of this new release but getting it this morning is more of a challenge. Most of the mirrors don't have it yet and redhat is only giving me 12K/s. I will report on more when available. Check out http://redhat.com
