Headlines and other news about other stuff
Well it seems like real life news is catching up with the tech headlines lately, so I feel compelled to list some of it.
Pentagon predicts 11-17 million casualties in first weeks of India-Pakistan nuke war. As if I didn't have enough crap to worry about with terrorists, they want to blow each other up. Cmon, we need to get a friggin Dremmel tool and cut the two countries apart and sit them in their corners. This is giving me a headache that I have to worry about a nuke thing.
FBI warns portable missiles a threat. Yeah, I hate flying already. Now I have to worry about a misslie shooting up my ass because somehow this got into America, and into a terrorists hands. They said flight 800 was an accident. Accident or were they covering up something this whole time. The way it works is that the stinger missles are infrared and will track the airplanes hot engine and kaboom. Yep, real anxious to fly now.
Snips from the "FBI: oops" shitMadsen added that, "it's hard to say in hindsight" whether the Carnivore failure described in the memo destroyed potential early clues to bin Laden's plans for the September 11th terrorist attacks. An FBI spokesman said the incident was a "rare mistake" involving technical problems with the Internet service provider in the investigation, not the software. He declined to comment further. The FBI now calls Carnivore DCS-1000. In a statement, EPIC general counsel David Sobel said the organization is also concerned that Carnivore problems endanger "the privacy of innocent American citizens." Sobel said EPIC wants the FBI to suspend the use of Carnivore "until the questions surrounding it finally can be resolved."
And these are people to protect us....
UK TiVo users forced to eat it
Let hear it for shoving TV down our throats. TiVo in the UK used something they call Push-It TV to put a show on users systems unless they were recording the a show during the same time slot. Now I know my TiVo makes suggestions and automatically records them. I can even opt out of it if I want. I don't know if this is something that TiVo is going to try in the US with the push tech but you can find more

2600 meeting next week people
Just thought I would post it because I almost thought 2600 was tomorrow too. May has 31 days so says the calandar. Oh well, looks like drinking and drinking for friday night. I will be at 2600 next week. I should be passing out info on the
Cannonball Run and holding an impromptu meeting of people who are volenteering to help out. Catch you around then.
Mod chips for the Xbox, YEA!
I don't own a Xbox, I don't think I want one. I do love the fact that someone figured this one out though. Congrats to the people who found out the way to make the mod chip and for putting it on the market. Microsoft will have to learn one of these days, there is no way to stop people from finding a way out of the box, or a way into an Xbox. More

Carnivore reveals its ugly head
News.com alerted me to a story about documents released about Carnivore capturing emails from people who aren't under investigation. We were sure of this happening but now it has hit the media again.
"These documents confirm what many of us have believed for two years--Carnivore is a powerful but clumsy tool that endangers the privacy of innocent American citizens," EPIC's General Counsel David Sobel said in a statement. More found

Daniel Pearl video sites had been asked to voluntarily remove the video
Well, of the things that could have trickled down to the internet, this is one where I stand un-decided. Dealing both with censorship and poor taste I do not really have a comment for this. One of the sites that took the video down, did put it back up. I finally saw it. I am not proud of seeing it, nor would I brag about such a video. It is a sick display of what these terrorists are doing to lower our spirits and anger us. I would like everyone to really think about how great out country is. I would like people who are here from other countries to stand up for the on you live in. We don't have are goverment slicing the throats of reporters, regardless on what they are reporting. We are not barbarians. Censorship or not, this is the best country to live in, we have a choice what we watch, eat, and do with our free time. Don't let these terrorists take that away from us. I wanted to complain about this for a while
So, do you like TechTV? I do, even though they have changed thoughout the years. There is one thing that I am very angered over, the streaming media that they have. It's not that it doesn't get updated as much as it could. It's not that they don't have the live feed of the shows any more. It's the format. TechTV has promoted alternative operating systems such as Linux on their shows, I appreciate that. I work in a Linux only enviorment at work. The problem is that TechTV no longer supports Real or Quicktime for it's media. I even have support for Windows Media 6.4 through
Crossover Plugin, but the video they are streaming is only viewable through Windows Media 7 or higher. It seems like they don't care to support those Alternative operating systems since they won't drag Microbucks to their pockets. Just my two cents.
If you have forgotten the pain
I saw this advertised on HBO, a documentary called "In Memoriam: New York City, 9/11/01" and I didn't really want to watch it because my thoughts were, oh my, another 9-11 documentary. Well Sunday night rolled around and I caught just some of the movie and it really made me remember the incident. It is one of the very best documentaries or news coverage on the attack of the Trade Center. I know that some of my friends in California tell me to lighten up about the tragedy. There are jokes like "I {plane} NY" and other stuff of that nature. I try to shrug it off as much as possible, but after seeing just some of this footage made me remember the people who died when it happened and especially the people who tried to rescue the others. Watch the film tonight on HBO.
