Yay, I got more drivers
I was on the Sony Support page for the
SR-33 laptop. They finally released drivers and libraries for the Hot Keys and the Jog Dial features on the laptop. Now I think I will try to reverse engineer them for the linux part. I have been unable to get the Jog Dial working in linux because the Jog Dial is a software device on the SR-33, unlike the other Sony laptops. Under other laptops it is seen as a hardware device on boot up.
Ricochet comes alive in Denver
I got this in the ol' mail bag yesterday:
Denver Live
As someone who has been patiently waiting for news about when Ricochet® High-Speed Wire-Free Internet will be available, we're pleased to inform you that we have just reached a major milestone.
On August 15th, Ricochet launches live service in Denver, Colorado.
While we're in negotiations with many cities and towns, the Ricochet network outside of Colorado is likely to be in commercial operation in select California cities next. We will continue to activate the network across the country where demand and interest is prevalent.
Ricochet is the simplest, fastest, most affordable high-speed, wire-free Internet access in the works. It will be priced very competitively, with reasonably priced modems and user-friendly terms.
So if you simply can't pick up and move to Denver to get Ricochet, please hang in there. We're on our way now!
College kids getting lame?
I hope this is a Cnet point of view article but they comment "
Forget kegs and collegiate hijinks. All you need are some midrange servers and Category 5 cable." What they go on to describe is the college LAN party. This is what scares me" You are just turning 21, there are more girls at college that you will see most anywhere, and you can drink with them! I don't see where the LAN party comes in. Now at my ripe old age, I don't even LAN party. If I have friends over and we are networked. We drink booze and hack. LAN party? Go play in someone elses yard. Read Cnet article

I wonder what the funeral will be like
Now I am not one for sports but I do like trowing things at people. If you never threw a Frisbee, throw one today. "Steady" Ed Headrick, the California inventor who figured out a way to make the Frisbee fly fast and straight, has died at the age of 78. His family said his ashes will be made into Frisbees. More

Wanna get inspired? Read this about Homebrew DSL
I read something about homebrew DSL a few years ago but with the growth of high broadband in the large cities, I dismissed the idea quickly. With many companies going belly up to the larger companies there has been hardware easy to come by for the consumer wanna be provider. Read this story
here, it is a real good story.
This Camera is a HOT item, for your hands
Nikon USA said in a statement that a circuit problem in certain units could cause the battery compartment of the Coolpix 2000 to overheat. Temperatures could get high enough to cause parts of the camera's plastic case to melt.
While never one of the top-selling brands, Nikon cameras have won a loyal following among professional photographers and serious hobbyists. The company's reputation was tarnished late last year, however, when it had to halt production of its $1,100 Coolpix 5000 camera. In certain conditions, the camera became crippled if the owner switched it on without removing the lens cap first.
That gave me a laugh this morning.
Linux World kicks off in San Fran
Well it's another year an Linux World is still throwing that gathering up in San Fran. It's been years since I have been to a Linux World. I often have fun at the expos but living in Los Angeles, it just seems too far to take off time to drive to. I just wonder if that Spanish Version of Linux is still around. Complete coverage of Linux World can be found
here.
I love defconpics.org!
I never submit my websites to defconpics.org but someone usually does. That means that there are people that like my pics. My pics. Why would someone steal pics and put them on their site. Welcome
http://citadel.macius.com/dc10/. All I can say is you are a bunch of morons. Everyone should generate whatever noise they want and direct it at these people. I already started the small claims court case against them. The funny part is in a Small Claims Case, they have to show or pay. Have fun traveling to LA suckers.
Smoking Ban?!?!?!?
I heard about Bloomberg trying to ban smoking in NYC public places. I also got this from my friend Harold who is the proprieter of the Raven:
Dear Friends
As you probably know Mayor Bloomberg has proposed a ban on smoking
in all bars in NYC. Now I'm not a smoker, but I know from all the
ashtrays I dump every night, that most of you are.
This is a stupid thing that the Mayor wants to do and all of you
smokers out there need to let your voice be heard. Mayor Bloomberg
was elected to help the local businesses of NYC. This ban will
surely hurt the bar business.
Bars are your last refuge; don't let them take it away.
The Mayor's proposal needs to be voted on by the city council.
Contact your councilman and the Mayor and let them know what a
mistake this is.
The Councilperson for Raven's district is Margarita Lopez. You can
contact her at lopez@council.nyc.ny.us
Phone: (212) 788-7366
Fax: (212) 614-8813
Mayor Bloomberg can be reached at
Phone: (212) 788-9600
Fax: (212) 788-2460
If you want to find your own local council member go the Links and
More page of Raven's website, www.raven-nyc.com, and click on
Government Guide. Type in your zip code and you'll get all the
details on your elected reps.
This is really important and I urge all of you to do this.
