Cell phones no longer allowed in Broadway Theaters. The new law bans the use of mobile phones in "any indoor theater, library, museum, gallery, motion picture theater, concert hall or building in which theatrical, musical, dance, motion picture, lecture or other similar performances are exhibited." Passed by the City Council, which overrode a veto by Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who said the ban was unenforceable, the law carries a fine of $50 for offenders who are caught and cited. So the USA is helping China to get past the internet blocking...
Well it would be great if we had people helping people us from being spied by our goverment. People are helping China instead. The software enables PC users running Microsoft's Windows XP or 2000 operating systems to pretty much go around the firewalls in China. Cnet stated the firewall is blocking users from downloading American news and propaganda. Propaganda, oh please. The goverment right now is blocking search engines and mostly news coverage. I don't know if we are blocked by China but I don't think we spread propaganda. They, the software developers, are also stating that it will defeat software proxies here in the US. Watch out you libraries and net cafes. Read more here.

A smoke-free act death from NYC
This was posted to me from my favorite bar owner from the RAVEN in NYC:

The first causality of NYC's Smoke Free Air Act has died. He was a bouncer in the East Village and he was stabbed to death on Saturday night trying to uphold the city's new ban on smoking.

His name was Dana Blake, a kind and gentle fellow who was a friend of the neighborhood children. A shinning example of what being a good New Yorker is all about. He was stabbed in the abdomen and one his arteries were ripped open. It took him 12 hours to die. One can only imagine his agony. And for what? Telling some jerk to put out a cigarette! Can our elected officials look themselves in the mirror and say that his death was worth it? For shame.

Despite all the warnings about the possible problems that this law would create, the mayor and the city council never considered these consequences when they proposed and passed the Smoke Free Air Act. Was his life worth it? What can the mayor say to Dana Blake's grieving family? They've got his blood on their hands for sure. New York City has created a horrific situation for many of us in the hospitality industry. We now are forced to confront people and refuse them service for doing something that only a month ago was perfectly legal. The mayor and the city council don't have to deal with this. We in the hospitality industry have to deal with this everyday.

How many more incidents like this have to occur? When in their mind will this violence no longer be justified? I'll never understand the logic behind these antismokers and their campaign for a smoking ban. On the one hand they say that all hospitality workers have a right to breath clean air.And yet when it comes to any other aspect of a hospitality workers rights , the right to earn a decent living, the right of having a safe work environment, the right to live through their shift, they turn a blind eye and a deaf ear. The mayor promised that the Smoke Free Air Act would save 1,000 lives a year in NYC.

So far it has cost NYC one life.

Can we honestly say that it was worth it?

America Online suing spammers?
Thats right, they are suing spammers. You would think they would come up with a spam fighting technology instead of the lawsuits that are a long time thing. AOL has already won an suit along with a big money settlement against Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based Netvision Audiotext. AOL stated that the defendants allegedly sent 1 billion e-mails that resulted in 8 million complaints among its users. My question is "Can I sue AOL for the comercials, free CD's in my mail and Just for being a PAIN IN THE ASS". More here

C'mon people post the T-Moble software
T-Mobie is now making a deal for setting up wifi Internet access available in some 1,100 Kinko's stores. I know the the software is proxy. We need the software to find out how to hack everything in the Kinkos offices. I would buy the silly account with t-mobile but I am sure they already want my head on a stick. Somebody must have want we need. Read the news release here.

New Opera, plus a new beta for linux.
Opera software added things like neat toys such as the rewind and fast forward buttons. The buttons can anticipate where the user would like to go next. The notes feature allow users to jot down a note in conjunction with a Web page. The note can then be dragged to an e-mail or stored for future reference. There is also a slideshow for photos. Check out Opera software here.
