| National provides documents in the Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format (PDF). Occasionally, you may experience problems when attempting to print these files. If you are having problems, please try one of the options outlined below. Printing from the online viewerWhen viewing a document with the View Online option, you can only print the currently viewed page. This is a limitation of the plug-in. To print the entire document you must download or have the document e-mailed to you and use an appropriate Adobe product to print the entire file.
Acrobat Reader Incompatibility IssuesWe are aware that some versions of the free Acrobat Reader incorrectly interpret the Postscript commands in PDF files. However, some problems may be the result of outdated or incompatible printer drivers on your local machine or print server. For some inkjet and laser printers, this manifests itself as large black circles on some or all of the document pages. This problem was fixed in Acrobat 3.01, re-surfaced in Acrobat 4.0, and has been addressed in the 4.05 release of the software. Please upgrade your software to this latest version and try to print the document again.
The following suggestions from Adobe and links to additional resources may also help you. Print as ImageIf upgrading is not an option, there is a workaround that you can attempt which is to print either the entire file or only the problem pages as an image. This is an option in the print dialog box within the Adobe Reader.
To print as an image, open the pdf file with Acrobat Reader, then choose File ->Print or (CTRL-P) to print the document. On the top right side of the Print Window, click and choose the button "Print as image". This should eliminate the error and result in a readable page. PDF And PCL Printers There are known problems when printing PDF to a PCL printer (Hewlett-Packard Printer Control Language). Adobe's response to this issue is as follows:
"If your PDF file prints incorrectly to a PCL printer, try modifying the driver settings. In general, try raster graphics instead of vector graphics and bitmap fonts instead of outline fonts. (Each driver has different settings, so we cannot tell you exactly which settings to use - see your printer manual for details.) If your file still prints incorrectly, print to a Postscript Printer. There is an updated release for PCL printing with Acrobat 3.0. This is the Acrobat 3.01 Update for PCL printing (aka Acrobat 3.01RA)" NOTE: this patch cannot be applied to Acrobat 4.0 Alternate Suggestions:
Make sure to use a _Postscript_ driver, not a PCL driver (which is typically the default driver for Windows/HP)Print to a certified Postscript printer with the latest drivers that support Postscript Level 3.
