We have just completed removing a good deal of mods and forum. I know that many of you don't like the changes, but give us a few days to get everything sorted out the way we had intended. There are a lot of missing mods, and there are a lot of forum kinks to work out. Please be patient within the next day or so while we finish making the changes.

Don't judge the changes until we're complete. The boards have been open 15 minutes and I've already gotten 5 complaints.

And on that note, I would like to address any concerns that you have here. If you don't like something the way it is, or if you would like to see something that we're lacking, say so. Don't post things that have already been said. acidmelt, Suzie, and I will try to address as much as possible.

i cant find backyard ballistics, maybe its the amphets. capitolize the new conspiracy, better yet, change the name. HB and B&M cannot exist with eachother

Meh... I don't mind most of the changes, some of the mods should've stayed mod in my opinion.

And about something I read in the other thread... someone said they hope Conspiracy (or whatever it's called now) and BLTC don't merge... why is that an issue? Did I miss something?

Hey Zok, to be quite honest with you. Im not too hot about the changes. Quite particularly how W&C and TRTBA doesnt exist anymore. And to be 100% non biased ass kissery blah blah blah, I think it was a huge mistake to demod ILP. When I first came here(particularly actually started regularly posted stuff in WC and TRTBA) I know I probably posted my share of stupid shit. But just the wealth of knowlege he had on laws on firearms and I was extremely impressed. Thats what kept me coming back, because that was the only forum I felt that got to the point and helped people with things that mattered.



Now its just all fucking alien. White washed and all. Change is fine, yes. But not to the point where it makes you feel alien to a place youve been visiting daily for almost the past two years.

Serious topics about gun control and technical aspects of firearms were discussed, we were relatively free from the shit that's spilled over from SG and HB and infected the rest of the subforums, and we had a close group where pretty much everyone knew each other with an occasional newbie we were happy to help out. In fact we were two of the few (only?) forums that allowed posting pictures, because it hadn't been abused like in some of the other forums.

i notice XiP was demodded.. why did that happen? he was a good mod in both the forums he modded. he was far more active than any of the other mods in those forums too.

One technical problem that's been bugging me: on the member profile pages, the links to their homepages are fucked up. It prefixes everything with totse.com and drops slashes.

I also concur with the BB outrage. It was one of the few science forums that wasn't littered with kewls. A kewl resistant name would be preferred.

Totses going down the drain,

W&C and RTBA were part the few last forums where you could put down your differences and take off your retard hats and hold a nice, civilized conversation with people you knew pretty well. We didnt have any spam or stupid spurious style conversations.We also didnt shun newcomers like other forums. RTBA was just liberated last year from being a trash dump and now its being shut down again...

I agree with Parallax and our views on guns and gun control were polar opposites. W & C and RTBA was full of people who knew wheat they were talking about, although a few of them did have a hard time arguing coherently.

Also, I see nothing on combat at all in the new posts. Where are things such as martial arts, questions about techniques, styles, martial weaponry and such going to go? Because I can't see many questions about hand to hand combat or katana being relevant in the new merged forum.

This is sorta unrelated but I was thinking that a new Forum should be created, call it "The Great Outdoors" It would be nature oriented and could cover topics ranging from hunting to farming to even camping. It would be like Green Planet except not limited to enviromental issues and such.

I like the way they combined Media and Anime into one forum. I personally think they shouldn't have been separate in the first place but thats just me.

I don't like the way BB was merged into a forum that should have just been made up of RTBA and W&C. Now it is going to be filled with locked threads from a bunch of retarded people.

I don't know how the whole "They're Coming To Get You..." thing is going to work out. It might go well.

And last but not least I don't see why the is a B&M and HB. I thought they were the same thing. Now all I see is yet another forum destined to be of no use and filled with utter stupidity.

So...so far its okay for me. But I guess we will have to wait till everything is done to really judge this whole thing.

No, it isn't. Believe me. I visit BLTC alot. About a week ago people noticed kronikus wasn't around and shortly after Social Junker replaced him. It wasn't related to this at all, the current BLTC mods just asked the admins for a replacement.

First off take the stick out of your ass. I'm happy to discuss people's problems with the boards, but I don't like being yelled at for things that aren't true. First off we didn't delete the posts from RTBA or W&C. They're still sitting there in the forums. I just turned off the forums so they don't appear in the forum index. I didn't merge the posts because I wasn't sure what we wanted to do with KFB. If I *do* want to merge them, it's going to take about 3 hours because I'll have to move each post *individually*. Because I have a magic wand... If you want it done, fine. I'll make you a mod for a day so you can move them all one by one.

Frankly, I didn't get to it last night because I wasn't sure about KFB and it was 2am when acidmelt and I finished making our changes for the night. I have a job and I need sleep, sorry.

And I doubt you'll be getting your money back, especially since you *donated* it. We like to respect people's privacy, especially when accepting money so we don't keep records. If you recall Jeff saying, he was even going to set up a system to accept paypal donations anonymously. Otherwise everyone would claim that they made a donation and ask for their money back, even if they didn't.

On a separate note, it seems that there is a very large amount of negative feedback on the KFB section. Many people want to see Backyard Ballistics back. Since we still have the other two forums (dispite what people said about them being deleted) I can change BB back and turn the other two into KFB. Before I do, though, I'd like to give this another day or two and see how things go.

Merging small forums helps keep them alive. Otherwise they don't get enough visits and we have to delete them. We've always had a forum for spam. It helps keep the rest of totse clean.

Sure, they may be similar in a few ways, but they are also very different in others. Meditation should not be discussed in a forum where assassination is discussed; the two aren't similar in any way. If any forums should be combined, it should be TRTBA + W&C or Media + Anime, both of which have already been merged.

As a moderator of Anime, I have to say that I dislike the merger with Media. While it is true that both consist of "moving pictures," it is also true that S&A and BLTC could be combined under a single "vice" category, and that makes about as much sense.

The critical difference is in the cultures of the two - they are more or less completely different despite sharing the "same" medium. I mean, people are going to start seeing reviews of the latest film releases next to threads about furries, Evangelion discussions, cosplay, and self-drawn hentai. How many people that visited Media in the past actually interested in Anime? Perhaps there is the possibility for a greater interest in Anime from the spillover, but the chances of it just annoying/disturbing people (and thus leading to more flames) are far greater.

In any event, if you decide to keep them merged, at least make the description a little more clear in regards to specifically saying Anime - a vague "animation" does not cover the actual subculture at all. Also, I don't know about Mahimaki, but I know that I'm not really qualified to cover the subject matter under Media. Thus, I'd like to see some Media-esque mods in there for fairness.

Adding new mods is our next step, was hard enough figuring out what we've done so far..

And Yes, BLTC and S&A are both vices, but seriously they're both HUGE forums, combining them would be stupid, though it's funny you say that, since I suggested we have a "Vices" category for those and a couple other new/redefined forums, if we do add categories shortly.

Combining BLTC and S&A would be a bad idea. They both have their fair share of spammers, and combining them would probably result in a forum not unlike Half Baked/B&M.

I wasn't going to be bitchy. I wrote an extremely nice post, explaining our motivations regarding a few mods in particular, only to find I didn't have the ability to post it there.

I think it's lame.. I didn't ban any of them from here, and it's not like I was trolling the damn place.. so to remove my posting rights is just kinda childish.

I agree. I purposely only posted in that one thread. I know that if I had been wanted in their forum I would have been invited, so I stuck to one thread that pretained to my administration at totse. But it's not my forum so I'll respect their decision. I've said to them what I wanted to say.

Also why the fuck didn't you fuse Green Planet and Humanities?! They are more closely related then SOTD and Conspiracy.

Does it matter if there are posts about anime next to posts about film releases? What's the problem with that? They aren't intruding on each other, or distorting each other.

Most people don't like anime, this is true. That forum was small. Try thinking of it like this: now, maybe more people will be exposed to it and perhaps you'll get more participation.

From what I understand, the entire point of these changes is to try something new. If this isn't working, THEY WILL SEE THAT and change it. They aren't going to pull a Jeff Hunter and disappear. Zok, Acidmelt and Wintermute have put a LOT of time and effort into this site. Maybe we should give them a chance and trust their judgement for once. Give it a try.

whocares123, Social Junker isn't kissing ass. You would know, if you went into BLTC (which it's obvious you don't very often), that Social Junker is a rational, reasonable, and smart person. That's why he said let's wait rather than jumping in head first. Him becoming a mod was because kronikus wasn't active anymore(this was noticed by THC and panthrax as well as other members) and, BLTC being the huge forum that it is, needed another mod. Social Junker was chosen because he posts there frequently, always gives good advice, and is quite knowledgable. Didn't want you to have the wrong idea.

Also, as a suggestion to the administration, I think Valmont should be another mod of Spurious. I've seen him in there frequently so he's active enough and, Spurious being the heavily populated forum that it is, could use another since more_cake is no longer a mod there. It's just a suggestion but hopefully you'll look in Spurious and see what I'm talking about.

You are missing the point. I mentioned "Vices" because that was a suggestion of a broad category made elsewhere, not because I am trying to make some sort of statement.

Small compared to what? Spurious? BLTC? If we're going by that logic, why is Radio Free America, Food Glorious Food, Cunning Linguists, Art & Design, and Go Team! still their own forum (no offence to the mods of those forums)? Anime was nowhere near "dying off" compared to those forum. There weren't several posts an hour, sure, but the fact of the matter is that it is not just about the anime for some members of that board, it was the subculture.

Yeah, I'm not happy about anime not having it's own section. It included more than just the shows on TV. There was cosplay, manga etc.

Ok, clearly BB and WC were both fairly active forums, with distinctively different topics. They probably should not have been merged.

The theory of merging smaller forums to keep them active is quite sound, however. But historically the smallest forums have always been Radio, Vogon, Green Planet. Then we've got the other, newforums, namely Money, Sport and Art, which are still whole.

Perhaps long-term totse members are always reluctant to see change; I for one think it's a little wrong that 2 active forums with different posting populations have been merged, while 6 virtually dead forums remain.

The name is also rather immature. As others have already mentioned, most of the posts in Right to Bear, and Weapons, were fairly intelligent and well thought out. Having to compete with "how to make teh bombs" threads will ruin the atmosphere in the new forum.

"Coming to get you" and "Moving pics" may work well; time, as Zok has suggested, will tell us how well.

Finally, if the merging of fora is to simplify the layout of the boards, then can someone explain the existence of both a HB and B&M?

Reducing 3 solid forums into 1, whilst creating an extra garbage forum seems silly; I suppose Zok plans to reform HB and B&M again in the future since he stressed the importance of waiting to see how things go.



So in conclusion, as a regular for over 3 years I would highly recommend:

1. Separate WC and BB.

2. Consider whether there's really a need for so many tiny forums (as mentined already) when larger forums are being merged.

3. Appoint ony moderators that have been on totse for several years and have made at least a few thousand posts' worth of contribution. No more newbie moderators.

4. And most importantly, return, at the admin's choice, to only 1 garbage forum. As a HB regular, I believe the atmosphere that makes HB enjoyable will be destroyed if the regulars are fragmented between 2 different garbage forums.
