View Full Version : Back on-line again
Jeff Hunter

I'm still configurating things, but after 48 hours of ups and downs the system is now back on-line with many, many improvements.
I installed a new OS (SuSE Linux Pro 9.3), new 2.6 Linux kernel, a new FILESYSTEM (reiserfs -- much better support for the thousands of flat files that UBB uses), a newer version of Apache 2.0, newer version of perl (5.8.6), mod_perl 2.0, new Postfix mail server (still working on that), and all sorts of stuff.
About the only thing I haven't done is upgrade UBB, but since the old OS on the server was what was keeping me from upgrading, UBB may be due for a change soon too.

A very old version of RedHat Linux. I don't even recall the version number, but I installed it in 2001.

Quoted for truth.
But, YET AGAIN, I demand something, the idea is hugely argued against with no actual evidence or reasoning, and an admin suddenly does almost exactly what I described. Edit: And gets hugely worshipped (and with good cause) for it. Left that out accidentally.

Almost no accounts were lost (one or two, tops), and I don't think any messages were lost either. I use rsync-over-ssh to backup the system to another server throughout the day. Otherwise it would have taken a week or two to get everything back up.

Seriously, it is pretty hard to access totse now. Proxies take way too long to do anything unless its important.
Please bring back the HTTPS.

I hope the UBB gets changed out. This stuff seems to be an older style and almost pre-2000 ish. I like UBB and totse is kick ass, but it must be a bitch to keep doing what your doing with the old UBB.
I wonder the day I come to TOTSE when it has a new and different design and a different UBB board. That will be sweet.
