I know Jeff is soon going to upgrade the BBS software. I am asking for an estimate on when we may expect it? Of course, it really isn't a big deal, I like the totse forums just as they are, but they do get buggy sometimes. Just wondering if we can get some insight to when it may be upgraded.

No, this version of UBB doesn't have a PM feature. Even if it did, it was just use up too much space to be worthwhile having (IMO).

In reply, we are given a relatively free rule over our respective forums, although we each have to abide by certain rules set down by the admins.

There have been some instances when other moderators have asked or suggested something for the forum and 99% of the time it all goes down to the benefit of the forum.

Actually, any mod that gets rotated into SG asked for it. Its by choice.

Firstly, to the guy who mention the moderators of THINKING forums. arx happens to be my comod for Printed Matter...which is in our opinion, the MOST intelligent forum on totse.

We also mod SG together and it takes more dedication than either of my other forums combined and multiplied by a number that isn't even fathomable.

Oh, while I'm on the subject, he spells it "arx" you moron, it's not capitalized, if he'd wanted it to be it would be.

SG is a tough forum to moderate. I did it for quite some time, and I can tell you that the worst thing about it is having to read every single stupid topic every single day. That's a lot of topics, and a lot of work. Currently, our way to deal with this is have mods on a short rotation, made up of volunteers from people already on the staff. Short rotation means that hopefully no one gets too burned out with all the crap they have to deal with.

Like all of us, Jeff has a real life too. He's working on a lot of things at the moment, including a possible BBS upgrade. It'll happen when it happens.

Currently the only way is the adbrite banner system. As with everything else, donation schemes will happen when they happen.

From what I know of jeff, I think that paypal donations will happen shortly after the BBS upgrade, because I think he'd like to link usernames to donations..

It's possible to mod this version of UBB to allow it, however, with the number of users we have and the current state of this place, it's not something we've even remotely considered. Use email, that's what it's for.

Once upon a time, we left mods pretty much to their own devices. I recently came up with a more structured set of instructions on what we expect from moderators. We (the administration) also randomly keep an eye on forums and mods, just to make sure they're doing a good job. If we don't think they are, then we'd first talk to them about it, figure out what can be done, and if necessary, remove them.

The way we have things set up, you get emailed a password as a verification of your email address. You're completely welcome to log into your profile and change the default password at any time.

1. Try using the 'reply' link at the top of the thread. Often adding a new reply will help regenerate the thread, just in case it got stuck last time someone posted. If it's still not working, link me here and I'll go take a look.

2. No, because that would be stupid, and no, because I don't even remember what date I removed them.. it was about two years ago now after all.

Final note, please try and keep this on topic. Stupid questions and posts will not get answered and repeat offenders will get their posts in this thread deleted.

Haywood has had multiple names, many of which have been banned. It's most likely that zok simply unbanned an old name, in fact it's the ONLY scenario which fits with what we have the power to do..

serious question. child porn has been raising its head on this forum, and seems to be more and more common. either in dedicated threads, misleading links or just randomly in sex-related threads. i know that freedom to post what you want is something near the foundation of totse, but i think the line has to be drawn somewhere.

this causes problem for the &totse team (legally, i know your not hosting or promoting, but no one wants this place to become synonomus with child porn) and for many users who really do not want to see that shit.

there are some things which i don't agree with that i am happy to be discussed in a theoretical nature, as within the ideals of this forum, but child pornography is not theoretical, it is the end result of the abuse of children (a few pictures and a real fucked up child), and should not be tolerated.

there are a few users who have joined with (it seems) the express purpose of posting/finding child pornography.

so, my question is, can some sort of policy be created so this shit can be eradicated?

I would like to know if there is some kind of problem with the forum software, as a post of mine in Technology doesn't appear as I typed it. I sent it again and again it was corrupted. There is nothing wrong with what I typed. I checked it in notepad and there are no html tags or anything which could have been interpreted that way.

When I first started coming to TOTSE, the admins were Enigma and J C Stanton. Then I remember that Jeff Hunter had the name up and there was no more Enigma.

Is Jeff the same chap as Enigma, and does JC Stanton ever post/have anything to do with the site? I don't think I have ever seen a post since 1999.

Also, was Enigma the same Enigma as the famous Enigma of 80's cracking/hacking lore?
