What difference does that make?

I'll start off by saying I think the concept of carbon offsets is a bullshit guilt-easement.

But the fact that he buys them through a firm he owns doesn't change anything. It just means he isn't buying it from the competition. It's not like the entire purchase price goes in to his pocket. The only money he gets from buying them from himself is his share of the profit that the company adds to the price as an operating expense. That's entirely irrelevant.

Someone is going to burn the carbon one way or the other. Carbon credits do absolutely nothing for the environment unless you trade in "trees planted", but since everyone trades in dollars its obvious its broken.

30 years ago everyone was afraid of the coming ice age, now we are combatting global warming with the stock market. Then and now, idiots are idiots.

Al Gore would look a lot better if he took some time off and started planting some greenery, like most non-rich Americans do.
