View Full Version : Confusion of sentimentality as spirituality

It bothers me when people do this. I see it in this forum often. A man who acts like a girl, weeping over every pain in the world, is not a spiritual man at all. Another rhetorical question I know the answer to here: Why do people equate tolerant, gray, smiley niceness with being spiritual?

Heart qualities don't necessary reduce to your opinion of them.

If you're considering the person who inflicting the damage as evil and think the victim to be good, then I suppose it could be considered a sort of righteous outrage sort of spirituality.

But most people can't make those simple distinctions.

Contrary to the Catholic icons, god is not a fucking bleeding heart.
Years and years ago, when D&D was new, I knew a dungeonmaster who would not allow evil characters--she wanted a "positive" game. What a crock of shit. Without darkness, light has no meaning.
I read somewhere that to be sentimental about something means that you love it more than god does. Just a few of the many words of wisdom that I have stolen over the years.

I can certainly understand that dungeonmaster. The party's supposed to be fighting the evil. The darkness has a place...as the opposition.
