I have recently decided to begin looking into different religions, to give myself an understanding of many of them. I was wondering if anyone could suggest somewhere to start in looking into Satanism. Is 'The Satanic Bible' by Anton LeVey a good place to start? Are there any other books people can recommend? Anyone want to give me a quick overview of what Satanism involves?

Excellent site, it will tell you a LOT of things about LOTS of stuff. Sort of cultish, but you can get past it to good info.

If it's real Satanism that you're looking for, then The Satanic Bible by Anton Szandor LaVey is what you want.

The repercussions may come from your inner self, though. When you're young you tend to do provocation, then if you hurted some part of your karma you're not aware yet, it still does feedback and you feel bad. Or, it could be your imagination, or just a mood swing...

The Necronomicon has nothing to do with Satanism. If you want to learn about it, though. Definately check out 'The Satanic Bible'. Lots of information.

When you start talking about "real" anything in terms of organized religion, the waters get deep and muddy real fast.

In my eyes, all organised religion is BS, Satanism is no different.

As I understand him, old Anton is a joker, and Satanism is pretty much just christianity turned upside down and inside out.

Gnosticism rocks! Satanism is obsolete Piscean Age stuff.

wow you obviously have no idea what you're talking about...satanism has NOTHING to do with christianity...it isnt really a 'religion' or at least not anymore that athism is...satanism is the study of intelligence doing what YOU think is righand thinking for yourself...PERIOD...thats all its about...go to religioustolerance.com and find the satanism link...also read anything by anton lavey....

that over with...my opinion on it (although you didnt ask you get it anyway) satanism is lame...go with existentialism...thats the way to go...

Satanism is interesting to research, kind of pointless to dedicate yourself to, though. Keep an open mind, and take from it what helps you the most.

From what I understand there are two types of Satanism:

1. The common misconception (as seen in the movies) version: They are an evil group of people who do the bidding of the devil, drink blood, murder people, etc, etc.

2. The real Satanism: God and Satan both possess god-like powers. Therefore, they must both be gods. All gods deserve respect, including Satan (even if he is considered evil). Thus, they pay their respects to both God and Satan.

I may be totally wrong, this just my understanding of Satanism.

Satanism is not the path that I would recommend. Satan is a lower vibration and a dark force. If you want to sleep with the devil though, that is your choice.

We were just talking about this, and my wife just pointed out that"Anyone who believes in Satan is a Satanist." This includes most Christians, of course.

Satanism, the Llavey flavou at least, preaches you should do whatever you want to do, which isn't evil by itself, but irresponsible.

i don't think that that is true because if you are a christian you learn to believe in jesus/ god and the second comming, and satan is a big part of that whole picture so saying that anyone who believes in satan is a satanist is wrong. but that is just how i see it i may be wrong.
