View Full Version : Belief
Everyone believes in different things. I believe that their is more than one god. I also belive that when you die, you have a long journey before reaching the underworld.
also, does anyone know gods name? no god deserves to be called god. they all have a name. they can be called a god, but no god deserves to be called 'god'. so what is the christian, catholic gods name?(anyone notice that almost all religeon says 'god'. their is never any names, theirfore, all religeons prey to the same god.) also, the whole world is religious. why? because we all base our time from the moment christ dies. right now we are at 2003AD. before it was like 200BC.(AD=After Death, BC=Before Christ) Its really dumb.
Most religeons accept that jesus existed.
Jesus was just another enlightened being who tried to help people by teaching 'truths' of the universe.
And as for god. God doesn't have an official name at all, but it's just the name that we have given him. It's probably better to think of god as an entity than a person.

Depending on who you talk to, what section of the Bible you're in, God has different names. Yah-Wey (YHWH), Jehovah, Elohim, Eloi, etc.
Some of these are just variations on each other.
AD doesn't stand for After Death, either. It's Anno Domini (Year of the Lord). Unless you think Jesus was born, taught and died in one year.
Of course, then you'd have to believe he existed in the first place, something there is surprisingly little evidence for.

The less you believe, the better off you are.
Belief is a hold-over from the Age of Pisces, which is dying a slow and painful death.
The Age of Aquarious (sp) is the age of knowledge. That is, I do not believe in god--I KNOW there is a god, we talk all the time.
How do I know that it is not just another voice in my head? Easy. God always comes from a place of love and creativity and acceptance.
Other, lesser spirits come from fear or other separating emotions.
Gnosticism rocks!
all hail the all knowing pizza.
So, if you don't believe in an omnipotent supreme being, God or Allah or whoelse then that means our lives are pointless, we just die and its over, no nothing just a sodium pentathol type blank...forever.
Why would all the people who lived, are living etc bother to try to figure out the reason for anything if it is all pointless.
That is depressing.....dead.

i believe (which means that i am not sayin ur rong) that there is no purpose to life. life is nothing but an arrangement of chemicals. we do not try to judge the purpose of the life of other species of animal or micro-organisms.the reason why we giv ourselves a purpose is to give our selves a sense of meaning and through our own arogance. religion is a system of control and god is simply a manifestation of the human subconcious, in order to give an insecure person a sense of security and definition on this planet

actually a.d. stood for anno domini, literally translated "in the year of our lord"
the terms bc and ad have been replaced thanks to that great friend of ours political correctness so as no to alienate other religions.
b.c. has become b.c.e (before current era), while a.d. has been replace with c.e. (current era).
"i am not sure of the spelling but the christian gods name is pronounce "yah-way""
if i recall correctly it is yhwh.
should've read further, craftian had it.

Some of the gnostics have a fervent belief that the demiurge and god are one in the same.
With that in mind, do you believe that god is a vindictive vengeful interfering ill-willed malevolent s.o.b. that wishes to increase suffering rather than aid it's creations?

izzy reele is right. BC has become BCE (before common era) and AD has become CE (common era). the terms changed to better suit all faiths, not just those that believe in Jesus as the Son of God.
and "yah-way" is spelled Yahweh. well, that's the americanized version, anyway.

Obviously so, if there is a god. The Christian god is supposedly omnipotent and omniscient. Thus, when (if) the Christian god created the universe/earth/humankind, it knew that we would do what we're doing, be what we are, and that we would suffer. A LOT. It also knew how to create the universe/earth/humankind such that we would not suffer, or sin, or whatever. Obviously, if this is how things are, it's because this is how god wanted things. So if you're suffering, it's because god hates you and wants you to suffer.

If you suffer, it is bacause you have chosen to do so. Pain is sometimes imposed on you, but suffering is optional.
To reiterate, my god is not about judging or punishing. My god has no preference regarding your behavior, so long as it reflects your highest and grandest conception of yourself. In other words, if your behavior is childish and spiteful, and you have no higher conception of ourself than to be childish and spiteful, that is okay with god.
"Hitler is in heaven." When you grok that, you will understand a lot about my god.
"In other words, if your behavior is childish and spiteful, and you have no higher conception of ourself than to be childish and spiteful, that is okay with god."
But if a person had no higher conception of themself, than to act childish, etc. then wouldn't they be an idiot, or at least retarded?
." So if you're suffering, it's because god hates you and wants you to suffer."
You are saying that he created some people to suffer and live miserable lives? That god has total control over our existence?
If god is all knowing, and created everything and everyone - Why would god make evil?
I have noticed there is a large proportion of people who disbelieve the Bible as the story of Jesus. If God can not be proven or disproved, why are there people who choose to not believe? What drives people to determine that it is a "story"?

There was an old tradition about this...i kind of remember that originally, back in the days of polytheism, the jewish god was a god among other gods. In other traditions he was known to be a djinn, typical thinking in those days state that if you know a god or a djinn's name (true name) then you can control him. the jewish god being crafty among other things never gave it to the patriarch who askd his name (probably moses) thus being god like to those people...just tradition ive heard...
He (the jewish god) replied to the patriarch (moses I think) stating i am who I am...
If you take the root of each title given to the jewish god it is all either:
1.a general term
2.plural in nature (a reflection of the earlier form of the religion when it was polytheistic)
3. you never really here what is its name
