I found this a print out of this article from a while back in my room the other day. I thought some of u may find it intersesting as it seems to mention alot of the experiences that many of us have had with the church, all the talk about "just having faith" and so on.

anyway <a href="http://www.next-wave.org/dec02/questions.htm">Here it is</a>

Arrgh, i cant get my link to work. Anyone know how to turn on HTML? (i suppose i should have read the FAQ or smthn)

Sadly, faith is the only thing that can maintain a religion. No one really has any proof, but some beliefs make more sense than others. I don't believe that there's a bunch of gods that determine my life and my fate and that i should keep the cows that i eat holy and stuff, because it doesn't go with what i ideally expect in a religion...but that's just an example.

Just to clarify, would it be correct to say that you determine the validity of a religion or philosphy by how much it lines up with up what you expect from said philosphy/religion?

No religion or philosophy has any validity, they're just the ideas of other men. But I suppose I could answer yes because you will only find something valid if it lines up with your previous ideas, but this I can only find with philosophies because philosophers are people who admit they are just other men with ideas, religions try to claim they have the 'right' idea. Anyone with half a brain realises there is no perfect answer.

If you could prove any religion and it was widely accepted, then we wouldn't have such a diverse plethora of religions. But, no proof towards anything exists so there's not much to be done.

The vast majority of philosphers that ive looked at seem to be the exact opposite- argumentative and more dogmatic than many "religious" people. Any Christian should freely admit that they dont have all the answers (although when they do, they usuallyget ripped to threads in this forum).

Generally anyone with a brain has done even primary school maths, and knows that there are suffiencent answers to most questions wether that be in science, philosphy or religion.

Plenty of religions and philosphies have validity. Validity is conferred by observable results, facts/evidence/proof and truth. Even if that doesnt sound intellectual, when it comes to living life, not just mental masterbation, its pretty evident.
