I remember hearing or seeing something when I was young about a supposed gospel written by Jesus being found that the church quashed due to it saying something about it not being necessary to attend church as long as you believed. Does anyone else know anything about this?

Of course the Catholics would supress something like that...gotta keep the tithes flowing in, don't they?

Jsus wrote nothing. All the so-called gospels were written well after his death and were so amended by others( especially King James, and Diocletion)so much later as to be pretty much worthless, as is most of the bible.

Not entirely worthless...i hear it makes good rolling paper http://www.totse.com/bbs/smile.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/smile.gif). Can anyone support that?
I think you are talking about the Gospel of Thomas. (Probably saw it in the movie Stigmata, that's how I got interested)
From what I've read, it goes somewhat against the Church(like you said). There are many references to heaven, hell, and worship rituals.
Its not really seen as a true Christian document due to the fact it was written long after Jesus's death(50+ years), but it is true that many early Christians along with Gnostics and Jewish-followers of Jesus(there's a formal name, I can't remember off hand) used these Gospels when they worshipped.

Coming from me and my fellow conservative church-goers: There is no where in the Bible were it says you have to go to church. However, it does say that Christians should have fellowship and church is a fellowship.... You know, I wouldn't look at church as a mandatory requirement that is a boring inconvenence (sp?). In many churches it may be that. But in my church we attend on Sabbath, God's holy day given to every man. We make it a special occasion that is not boring nor an inconvence.

ArmsMerchant, have you perhaps, i dunno THOUGHT about the possibility that there might by even a slight shread of evidence for the bible's veracity?
Also i heard that it is good for rollies, but the ink is toxic. That seems to be another common thread here...
all of the gospels were written around 50 years after his death... yeah, it is the gospel of thomas that was discovered... i have it in small book form. it's weird.
