The meaning of my life is the maximization of pleasure, what meaning have you given your life?

Giving your life a meaning doesn't seem right. You should find the meaning, not simply append one to your life.

That's what I meant by giving yourself a meaning. It's not something predetermined for you, it's a result of YOUR choices, so you did give it to yourself.

what is the point of it? i was thinkin are we just here to piss each other off with a little bit of leisure and be in a society. the earth would prolly be a hell of a lot better with no people.

The Reason For me to live is to ensure my family name is well respected in this world and will be for generations to come. but I'm young so that Idea will change.

To singlehandedly create a computer game of epic proportions, and to learn japanese.

That's the long-term goal. For now I'm mostly working on getting a million dollars to retire on. That part's not looking so good.

It doesn't really matter if I succeed or not. I'm just trying to have some fun.

I'm still figuring out what the meaning of my life is.

Personally, I take a "shit or get off the pot" approach to life. I want to figure out what I have to say or do to make my point and then die as quickly as possible. No hanging around.

Cheers,

Lost

Not probably, it would be.

Interesting equation I noticed reading this; maybe I'll bring it up sometime elsewhere:

The meaning of my life is the maximization of pleasure

Not probably, it would be.

Am I the only one that sees a connection?

That I'm right?

As long as people do whatever they want whenever they want, yea.

Yeah...free will and personal responsibility are so horrible! We must enslave these rowdy humans so they can no longer decide for themselves whether they live good or evil and accept the consequences on their own accord! Obviously their greed takes complete control of them when they cease to bow to authority...

I'm sorry, but the image of a world in which people rule themselves makes me happier. Yes, more crime, that's inherent in freedom...the freedom is worth it to me though. Maybe I just value my free thoughts over my life span.

The meaning of my life is the maximization of pleasure

does not equal

...free will and personal responsibility...

Happiness is completely and totally overrated. Stuffing my face with chocolate and my veins with heroin, cheating on all my college tests, having sex with everyone I see, and shooting people that annoyed me would technically make me happy. Only a genuine Ayn Rand slob would consider that the meaning to his or her life.

I'm confused by your statement:

Obviously their greed takes complete control of them when they cease to bow to authority...

Are you genuinely accepting that as truth, or are you merely shrugging off the a priori fact of human psychology in a sarcastic stab at the obvious conclusion to my previous equation?

"The meaning of my life is the maximization of pleasure

does not equal

...free will and personal responsibility..."

I know. But that meaning is the one I've found of my own free will, and how I act out my purpose is my own, personal responsibility, not a God's nor an afterlife to answer for. Anything I do for pleasure in this world will affect me one way or another. Justice is served here for crimes committed here.

"Obviously their greed takes complete control of them when they cease to bow to authority."

What I meant by this, was that humans are not entirely selfish. We have empathy and internal order to the point we aren't complete fuckups. We have just as much drive to create as we do to destroy...we're just faster at destroying right now.

Tyrant, why do you think life has to have any meaning?
