There is no meaning of life.

If you leave a piece of bread out for a few weeks, it grows mold. The conditions on the bread are right for mold to grow there, so it does. After being there for a while, and possibly giving way to slightly more advanced mold, the mold gets curious; Why is it there? What is its purpose? Who/what created it? Should it devote its life to the worship of some supernatural being who it thinks must have created it, because it cannot conceive any other reason for its existence?

No. The mold is there because conditions were right for it to grow there.

People are like this. Millions of years ago, people evolved and proliferated because ambient conditions were right for them to do so. That is the only reason why we are here. There is no meaning of life.

Yes and no. That is "your" menaing of life for "your" universe. Everyone has a egocentric view, and things that way they perciece them are diffent. My idea of the meaning of life, htough similar in the scientific logic you stated, isn't the same for me.

If survival and reproduction are what you consider the meaning of life, then that shows your not very creative. Life is for whatever you want it to be for. The only limit for what life can be for is what your sheep like intellect will devise. The only boundary is the self.

The qeustion "What is the meaning of life?" Makes no sense really. Unless you are asking for the definition.

Oxford Dictonary Definition - Life - state of functional activity and continual change peculiar to organised matter.

LIFE IS NO-THING. LIFE IS AN ENDLESS CHAOS OF POSSIBILITIES. BY SELECTING SOME OF THOSE POSSIBILITIES WE WEAVE A WEB DETERMINED BY A PATTERN WE CANNOT KNOW BEFOREHAND. IT IS THIS SELECTION OF POSSIBILITIES, OR THE WEAVING, OR THE WOVEN WEB, WHICH PEOPLE MISTAKENLY LOOK UPON AS LIFE. YET REALISE THAT LIFE REMAINS FOR EVER UNTOUCHED BY THE WEAVING OF MAN. WE MAKE OUR UNDERSTANDING OF LIFE WHAT WE WILL, BUT LIFE IN ITSELF IS A TRANSCENDENT STATE OF FLUX HAVING NO FORM, AND YET GIVING RISE TO ALL FORMS.

A better qeustion would be, What is the purpose of life?

But this answer to this question is even more elusive than the first.

'Should it devote its life to the worship of some supernatural being who it thinks must have created it, because it cannot conceive any other reason for its existence?'

We have a million reasons why and how we got here. None of them have been proven so its up to each individuals best judgement to determine what they see as beeing the truth.

And just so you know, just because you don't care about contimplating any possible reasons for our existance, or anything beyond our lives doesn't mean theres nothing to find.

You feel that the easiet answer is the truth. Others don't. Others feel life may very well be more complicated then "we're here because the conditions are right". They're looking back further, like how did we originally start out? Did we evolve, or were we put here like this? If we evolved, what did we start as, and then why did we become what we are?

If life was simply the outcome of a certain set of conditions, then why is there evolution? If we only exist beause the conditions are right, what are we evolving towards? Are we simply evolving to perfection? If so, then there is a meaning to life, though that is based on whether or not you agree with evolution.

You don't know this. You 'know' as much about why we're here as any christian, athiest, jew or muslim. Your views are just as valid, just as invalid and just as flawed. Nobody is right, and if someone is theres no way we can tell.

"The meaning of life" is generally applied to the question of why people exist; as someone said, purpose. I'm saying that peoples' lives have no purpose. We weren't created to serve god, we aren't here to help others, we didn't evolve so we could rule the world, we exist only because we can.

quote:

dictionary.com:

mean·ing (n.)

1. Something that is conveyed or signified; sense or significance.

2. Something that one wishes to convey, especially by language: The writer's meaning was obscured by his convoluted prose.

3. An interpreted goal, intent, or end: “The central meaning of his pontificate is to restore papal authority” (Conor Cruise O'Brien).

4. Inner significance: “But who can comprehend the meaning of the voice of the city?” (O. Henry).

so, we should at least agree on the usage before we get into what we're saying, right?

If life doesn't have a purpose, why haven't you hung yourself yet?

Fuck

There's no purpose. You'll know this once you feel infinity for the first time.

Smoke some salvia D. The universe is waiting for you.

I understand that this is a very simplistic point of view but I invite anyone to come up with a better one.

Life's meaning is up to you, what do you like?

What the fuck does life mean to me? My best answer, my wildest guess to fulfill my tingly sensations to sit and wonder on more.

Maybe we are just here simpley because we are. No meaning? Seems everything is based off of opinions or a original opinion. You cant come to someone and say this smells good and be 100% sure of it. Theres no universal "GOOD" like theres no universal "MEANING". Everyone thinks different so the world is what you see it as?

This is my point, you are saying that you are nothing. Why? Why is your meaning of life meaningless? Why do you see yourself as so unimportant? Do you have any idea what are the chances of your conciousness to exist? We are a miracle and here you are saying that your viewpoint means nothing, well that's what you believe and therefore that is your reality. I say it again, the meaning of life is the meaning you define, we call this being concious. Most people just ask stupid questions like "What's the meaning of life?," Yet they are ignorant to the answer because they believe they do not posess it, or they ignore the answer that's right in front of their face.

Is it that much of a blow to the human ego to simply consider that we are nothing more than a byproduct of the universe? I couldn't care less if life had no spiritual meaning, I am here for whatever reason and intend to have as much fun as humanly possible.

It's not about ego, if we are a product of the universe. The universe you speak of is only part of absolute reality. This body that you possess isn't the entire you either. You exist on many many different levels. You are convinced that only what you percieve through the senses is real, but the senses themselves are nothing but electrical impulses interpreted by your brain. Add to this the fact that they can be altered or induced through drugs. The truth of the matter is that you are a creative choice, and one day you will realize this, that is make it real.
