Why do people even bother attempting to convince others that their religion is right or wrong?

Do you religious folk feel like you're getting closer to your god by screaming at some innocent pedestrian or filling some message board to the brim with liquid shit? Do you non-religious people think that, perhaps if you put your foot down hard enough and shout "There is no God" loud enough and pull up enough contradictions in the Bible (as if Christianity was the only religion on Earth) that the former fanatics will go, "By jove, you're right! I never saw that mistake before, and I will now relinquish my faith. No more worshipping for me!"

Religion is the Eternal Argument. No one's ever going to be proven entirely right and no one's ever going to be proven entirely wrong. And no one will ever change their minds because of some harassment from an insane stranger. The most-the very most-you'll get is a nice heaping helping of hate.

In short: You're all bloody idiots. Go to your room.

so, we're insane idiots...what kind of person does it take to think they can convince insane idiots to quit doing what they do?

Dude...

You don't need to torment them in a forum. Just wait about 50 years and when they are all dead, they get a nice surprise: nothing. Theists will be greatly disappointed upon their death date because the afterlife they have come to expect is nonexistant. That's how i think it is, anyways.

Im athiest, but to say that theres nothing after to death without any proove, be it, to prove or disprove it, is pretty ignorant.

You know, when it boils down to it, no one really gives a shit about what anybody else thinks about religion. There's only a board for it so it doesn't leak elsewhere.

It's sad that you harbor under the illusion that you must state your beliefs.

it's equally sad to waste your time telling people to quit doing something that you think is a waste of time...

you know, i enjoy debate. i like to have someone pose a problem with my philosophy. it gives me mental exercise, and helps me to uncover flaws in my reasoning.

sharing knowledge is a good thing, or so i was led to believe.

i think it's far sillier to say, on the one hand, that no one can be persuaded against their nature, and then on the other, you try to persuade us to stop talking.

we aren't harming anyone, and you could probably just ignore us. what's the big problem?

You do realize that that line of thought is a direct contradiction on itself, right? I do. I'm just practicing doublethink.

Yeah, it keeps you mentally flexible and it's fun.

Also I've found that if I vent my rage online it keeps me from tearing into my religious friends in real life.

Anything else?... oh yeah, I am secretly waiting for the day that I will be utterly proved wrong. Must say, crazier things have happened so maybe someday I will have to give my philosophy a complete overhaul, no biggie,
