View Full Version : Christianity- the biggest cult of all?

Think about it. Think of the methods used to "recruit" new members, and the threats of eternal punishment if you don't join. When you look at Christianity, you'll notice that it employs many techniques for "recruiting" and keeping members used by cults all over the world. The Devout Christians, in my eyes, have been brainwashed to such an extent that it has ruined their lives, yet they are to blind to realise it. Any thoughts on this? I believe everyone is entitled to their beliefs, but that doesn't mean I have to agree with them. Christianity will be taboo in a few hundred years, I guarantee http://www.totse.com/bbs/biggrin.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/biggrin.gif)
Share your thoughts, please. But if you're a Christian and just want to flame me or preach, tell me I'm going to hell etc. don't waste your time. I'm Pagan; I don't believe in hell anyway... plus, my gods can beat the shit out of your god http://www.totse.com/bbs/biggrin.gif (http://www.totse.com/bbs/biggrin.gif)

There are many aspects of christian culture that make the religious organization resemble a large cult. Those aspects paired with the potential creepiness, I'd definitely have to agree with you.
With that in mind, the spiritual concept behind christianity is about as good as any other, in my personal opinion and the christian ideals are nice.

"recruiting"
how so?
the most Ive ever seen is a letter in the mail at christmas.
plus its youre choice to say theres no hell.. not my prob.
Pagan?
lol
"my gods can beat the shit out of your god"
did you come up with that yourself? :P
It is estimated that around 21% of all people on earth follow Islam. The Islamic religion is currently in a period of rapid growth.
Christianity is currently the largest religion in the world.
It is followed by about 33% of all people -- a percentage that has remained stable for decades.
Yet if the current trend continues, Islam will become the most popular world religion sometime in the mid-21st century.
So it seems that Islams "recruitment" methods are doing a better job than Christianities.

Good point, Dr Bint, bloody hell, we will let you live your happy lives as long as you believe that there is some bastard in the sky ruling us all and that created us all and that will BURN YOU AND TORTURE YOU AND MAKE YOU LIVE FOREVER IN ETERNAL PAIN IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE IN THIS ONE FREAK-ASS SON OF A BITCH!!!! Jesus heals, honest.
